"Daniel van Buyten was not part of the Bayern party which set off from Munich on Tuesday lunchtime for the Champions League quarter-final first leg away to Barcelona. The centre-back returned to his home country of Belgium a few hours earlier for family reasons. Daniel had briefly rejoined his team-mates from a spell of compassionate leave the previous day.

In the absence of the injured Lucio, and with Martin Demichelis and Breno the only recognised central defenders available for selection, coach Jürgen Klinsmann added talented youngster Holger Badstuber from the FCB reserves to his senior squad.

"We're missing a few players, but we'll still send out a competitive side capable of holding its own against Barcelona," commented Klinsmann, who is also without Miroslav Klose after the striker underwent surgery on a foot injury. On the plus side, Hamit Altintop has reported fit from a calf strain and returns to the squad"
"To go with the selection issues, the Bayern party suffered a disrupted start to their trip when their plane developed hydraulic problems before take-off, although the aircraft was finally cleared to depart for Catalonia after a 50-minute delay. The passenger list included birthday boy Franck Ribéry, who is 26 today"

Cáceres n Ribéry share same day??

Boy, we really needed Abidal for this game. He's is our only LB tall and big enough to handle Schweinsteiger or however you spell it. Puyol is going to have a very hard time considering that Schweiny is in very good form ATM.
