Youth: Interest in Calasancio talent Cabanelas

Galicia regional newspaper La Voz de Galicia claims that Barcelona is interested in Calasancio de Monforte Infantil goalkeeper Sergio Cabanelas (born in 1995).

Barcelona would have sent scouts to the Spanish championship under-14 two weeks ago and has contacted there with José María Cabanelas, the father of the player, to inform him about the club’s interest. It is expected that Barcelona will later make a concrete offer.

Celta Vigo, Deportivo La Coruña and Real Madrid are also interested in Cabanelas, who already played some test games with Celta youth teams. The parents of the player have in the past rejected offers by Celta and Deportivo because they thought their son was still too young to move out.

Asked about a possible offer of Barcelona, José María Cabanelas said in an interview with the paper that the sporting criterion won't be the only one when making a decision: "If we would receive an offer from clubs like Barcelona or Real Madrid, we would strongly take into account not only the football aspect, but also the school situation, the place where he would stay and his options for the future."
