Eto'o will stay next season

Catalan sports paper Sport claims that Barcelona forward and Cameroon international Samuel Eto'o (28) has informed the club that he won't leave at the end of the season.

Eto'o and his agent Josep Maria Mesalles have rejected all offers and verbal proposals the player has received by other clubs. The striker is happy in Barcelona and doesn't want to start from zero in another country, league and club (read more here).

Regarding a possible contract renewal, Eto'o, whose contract expires in the summer of 2010, didn't yet take a stand and plans to wait for Barcelona to make the first move. It is expected that Eto'o would want to extend his contract with three more years, including a considerable pay rise. After his time at Barcelona, he would want to retire at Mallorca.

Best news since a long time. Renew him and I'm happy.

i'm afraid he wants to leave for free at the end of next season! substantial pay rise? he already earns a lot.. We can't pay him that much more. a player like iniesta earns a lot less and is probably as important as eto'o

"jordy" agree with you

Its a matter of seniority jordy, iniesta will get his "big-contract" when he gets older. dont fear

I'm with Jordy. Looks like he wants to "punish" Barca for not believing in him last summer.

There's one simple solution though - agree upon a deadline for the renewal before the transfer window closes and keep all other options open. Offer Eto'o a GOOD deal and if the two parties STILL can't agree upon a concrete renewal offer until, say, mid-June, he's obviously stalling and we should then sell him while we still can cash in. He isn't irreplacable. Bojan is the future and there will always be more options. I am a fan of Eto'o, but more so of Barca and if Eto'o wants to screw the club (I'm saying IF), screw him.

I dont think they should raise his salary, why cant he just extend with same amount of salary?

I love Eto'o but I would rather see him leave next season with a decent transfer fee, rather than stay and leave on a free transfer.
