I'm listening "El primer toc", one of the three daily sports program at RAC1; according to Maxwell's manager, who has been interviewed right now, the deal is done for about 4 mill euros.

if this is true, everyone crack the champagne. this guy is GOOD. as in GOOD!

How good is this kid? Detailed description of his main strenghts and main weakness in addition to his overall ability and personality would be appreciated. Could the blog provide this?

Thanks, Genis, added that!

Anurag: I don't have any champagne, we need to calm down and take things step by step. Besides, there are Christian people on this board who would not appreciate you saying such things.

woooooow!!!!! didn't see this coming!!! finaly we signed someone.Does this mean Filipe is out?

There are rumours circulating that this player is really bad. Can someone enlighten us please?

Well first of all he's not a kid.

Pretty good backup but can he compete with Abidal, does he have the chanse to compete with a fit Abidal on the left back pos?

I don't think he going to be better than in Inter cuz he's turning into a 28 years old man in the next month.
And maybe he will have some adapting problems!
I prefer Felipe,clearly!

Young, chosen for the best LB by many experts and could be our first LB.

Carrer de Corsega said...

I'm divided on this. Filipe would be an investment. But this old man costs about fifth of Filipe. For now, I would take him so that we can at least have someone when Abidal starts his red card streak again!

Helge said...

Wow, that's really cheap. It's a good deal, I think Abidal and Maxwell are quite equally good.

I would have preferred Zhirkov for this position, but 2nd (realistic)alternative might have been Maxwell.

i think maxwell will be a great signing... i havent seen him play much since he joined inter... but i remember his time with ajax... he was superb back then.. attacking and defending... very skillfull like most if not all brazilians... and he showed he can play in the ajax system, which strongly resembles the barca system...
And if you consider the fee we payed, then i think its a real bargain...

PS: i am happy this community will live on...

Nice to see Pep with the first post... just like before.

From what I've heard, this guy is onw of the better left backs out there... this is sure to upset Filipe.

skanjos said...

deportivo wanted 20mil for filipe and our offer was 9mil ,so not even close ,we dont know if they would sell for 12mill. so for 4mil maxwell is awesome deal ^^

on the other hand hleb is issuing a play me more or sell me in the winter plan

You could argue that we already have enough up and coming talent in our defense: Henrique, Pique, Muniesa, Botia, and that kid from Uruguay! So a bit more of experience wouldn't hurt.

i think that they barca must have added these 4 million for felipe instead of paying maxwell because he's old... i don't know if he's good or not but i heard he was injured 8 months ....

Unknown said...

at 4 million i am very happy with this, maxwell is a quality player and fits our style.

considering we need to use the rest of our budget on Ribery, Mascherano and Villa, its good we were able to save some money :D

Carrer de Corsega said...

Anony,
The fact that we are saving here instead of splashing more on Filipe, might imply that we are preparing to really make a huge final bid for Villa to convince Llorente. That is if you believe the reports saying that Pep wants Villa more than any other signing.

on the catalan version of the website of barca they confirm the deal.

maxwell was injured thts why didnt featured much last season for 6months (major injury) even then he managed 25-28 appearance
he first played as Lb for inter then was shifted to lM since his passing and holding ball skills are good , and has good pace

if this is OFFICIAL then ita a crazyyyyyy deal i must say.. a bargain....
m sure he will challenge Abidal too.. real smart move....
hope we get done wit CF, LWM n CM position soon too....

Carrer de Corsega said...

It is not crazy really. Maxwell has a year left on his contract and lost his starting spot to a kid. This is how a Perez-free transfer window should look like.

And yes, the Catalan version has indeed confirms that we have reached an agreement: Principi d'acord amb el lateral Maxwell!

"Rumors" that a player is bad? It's not like he has been playing in the dark! Go watch some games and make up your own mind! That sounds dumb and lazy!

Unknown said...

I don't know if he is useful or not cuz if he was then inter wouldn't let him go for only 4m! in the other hand in the other hand barca wanted to sign filipe for 9m so they saved 5m and they could add it to villa deal and force valencia to let him go...I hope barca sign Villa cuz he is the only transfer that i'm really waiting for...
P.S. thank you pep for didn't let this great website die...;)

@ carrer de corsega
he was injured so his lost his place but he was actually playing at LM ie was used for both LB and LM ...played as DM for inter too
if u go check the uefa champions league squad for inter last term he was put as a midfielder in the official uefa site

carrer de corsega: don't blame Perez or real madrid for Barcelona's transfer season. Perez and Madrid have many times bought players with one year left, bosman players etc, and benzema and Albiol prices were not excessive at all.

The blame must be put on our own board. Regarding the kid from Uruguay. Just because our board splashed out 17m for him doesn't make him a talent!

Furymaker said...

Maxwell and "bad" doesnt go together , he is great left back , and sure this is great price for him ;)
I just hope we can get Villa and maybe Cesc , but Villa is enough.

wala said...

Furymaker: Villa is 28 and 50m euros for such a player is way too much. We need to be smart and stop the nonsense buying. Hernanes can be bought for 10m euros. This is something to think about.

It has already been updated on wikipedia, LOL! Wiki is ultra fast encyclopedia!

Anony, I know!

Wala, I don't really blame them. Getting a player with 1 yr left is a different animal than getting a star player with multiple years left on contract. And when Perez injects that much money into the market, it inflates the big stars' price tags. Now, we have made a somewhat Calderon-ish obsessive mistake so far...sort of. We have followed big name players so far with the exception of Filipe, whom we focused on more than we did on the others. That has diverted our attention from our basic needs and the bargain deals available, like this one, to the extravagant deals that are not traditionally the way we do business, and they are especially hard to pull off in this time. There is a lot of blame to go around...Let's stop here...

And I agree that paying 17 million for Caceres doesn't necessarily mean or guarantee that he is talented...you should have got the sarcastic tone as I mentioned him last as "the kid from Uruguay!"

Glad with this buy. Good value for money (if he stays fit). If Abidal goes back to France next year, we can go for Felipe Luis or another youngster.

And 50 mil is a lot for Villa, but we need a striker. I'm an Eto'o fan, but he can't stay and leave for free. Only problem i'm having is selling eto'o for let's say 25 and buying someone equally good for 50 milj isn't good management.

Our squad isn't bad at all, but we've had a good year, but luckily not a lot happened. Except for Milito not a lot of injuries. If let's say Xavi breaks down in november, then losing Keita en Touré ACN.. Hleb isn't good enough for the time being (maybe it's arsenal-boys needing a year to adapt). Fabregas would be good, but too early. Mascherano would be good.

I disagree about whoever is criticizing the transfer of Caceres.
He is talented and good enough to play for us. However, he didn't get any playing time and when he did he had too much pressure and it got to him. If he would have played as regularly as Pique, he would have been a completely different player right now. The reason I compare Pique to him is because Pique is the most improved player of Barcelona over the past year. He is a different player compared to the player he was a year ago. But would he have improved so much if he would have played as little as Caceres? Of course he wouldn't have, that's why Caceres needs more playing time to develop his potential. Then we would see the real value of Caceres.
I suggest we loan him out for a year to Zaragoza and see what happens. I would not sell him because I have faith in him. After all he is only 22 and for a CB, that is a very young age.

4 mill is a great deal. Why he is so cheap is that he only has 1 year left on his contract and he wants to get a guarantee of regular football. With inter discovering David Santon he wasnt sure how much time he was going to get so he wanted out.

Moe said...

what s his nationality?

barca4life said...

He is brazillian but has been in europe for several years so he should have a EU passport.

Exarch said...

He is good going forward and has great crosses, but who do we have to finsih those crosses?

Defense wise I think he is a bit light weight. I also would have concerns about Italian defenders moving to Spain, remember Zambrotta?
