Portuguese sports papers Record and A Bola unconfirmedly claim that Barcelona is still interested in signing Porto central defender and Portuguese international Bruno Alves (27) in the summer (read more here).
Although Barcelona could already have reached a pre-agreement with Bruno Alves, the Portuguese defender would in the meantime have received more interesting offers from other clubs. Inter Milan, Manchester City and Real Madrid would be among the teams that are also interested in the centre back.

He made a HUGE mistake against Manchester. And I can't see him signing for Barcelona. We alredy have a lot of central defenders (Puyol, Marquez, Pique, Caceres, Milito and Henrique on loan).
actually, he made two big mistakes (the second one by not covering a player standing next to him who scored one of the goals). naturaly, it might have been a rare match amid otherwise good performances, but as anonymous stated, we have enough CBs playing already, let alone with milito and henrique coming to the squad. i would loan out caceres though, the guy has potential, but is looks shaky, he needs to gain experience and confidence in a good club preferably in spain, maybe sevilla, valencia or atletico?..

Remember barca were rumoured to be interested in mexes recently and then he had that horrorshow where roma conceeded 7 at man utd. LOL. Barca defensive targets seem to be cursed.

Seriously: good guy but not really what we need. And he has a contract for some years plus a serious buyout fee, so this looks more like a guy for Manchester City or the Italian league (watch that video...).

Bruno Alves is a good player but we have enough CBs, so I think the priority should be given in buying young promising full backs as we have enough cover for CB in Caceres and Henrique. But in wings we dont have any good quality youth covers. We need a good LWB since Abidal is 29 and is not a good wing back. Eventhough Alves is one of the best RWB in the world we should have a young promising cover for his position rather than playing Puyol out of position. And everybody knows our need for a young GK cover. Eventhough the transfer I am speaking about are just covers for the existing players we can make enough out of them in the future.

Oh. Pretty amazing comment about Abidal not being a good wing back. This season has put those sorts of thoughts to rest, I think. He's been exceptional this year.
If we're going to write off people for making mistakes, our entire back line would be gone. Yes, it was stupid. But Bruno Alves is the business, and would be a good fit on our back line.
hmm... ok. so he makes horrible mistakes (like the ones against man united) and, according to the video, apparently fouls everybody that gets near him. do we really want him? those of you saying we could use him are forgetting that we arent very good at defending set pieces. something we will be conceding a lot of if this guy is playing in the back for us
is CB the only position he plays? i thought i saw him play LB in portugal games?
why are we still interested in CBs? when henrique returns and milito comes back from injury we will have plenty. we should be looking for back ups for both LB and RB.
