Hleb still believes in Barcelona future

Asked about the rumours linking him with a move to Bayern Munich (read more here), Barcelona attacker and Belarus international Alexander Hleb (27) has said in an interview with German newspaper Der Tagesspiegel that he still is focused on Barcelona:

"Bayern Munich is one of the best clubs in Europe and for every football player they’re always an option. But I want to keep on fighting and prove to the people that Barcelona was right to come and get me at Arsenal.

It’s true that I'm not often playing and it's hard to sit on the bench. My start at Stuttgart - and later at Arsenal - was also difficult and I also had to fight myself into the team. But I'm also thinking about my age. I'm almost 28 years old and I don't have that much time anymore like when I was 22 years old.

Barcelona has always been a dream for me since I was a child, so I don't regret having chosen Barcelona over Bayern last summer. It's right that it's difficult to compete with players like Lionel Messi, Thiery Henry and Andrés Iniesta and for the coach it's at this moment also very difficult to change something. The team is winning and he has confidence in the players who are starting the games. But that doesn't change anything about my attitude or about my objective."

I saw arsenal matches last season and Hleb was awesome, though people only saw Cesc, Hleb was the critics player of the season for Arsenal, after Flamini .. I think he is a valuable asset for this team and would be fantastic if he plays in the midfield rather than in the wings. Barca is blessed with technically gifted players with the likes of Xavi, Iniesta in the midfield. I think we can have a rotation among them, to keep them fresh and fit.

To tell you the truth my stance on hleb has softened a little. Unless he really wants to go i would hold onto him for one more season at least, if he doesnt improve then he can leave after next year.

Give him another year IN MIDFIELD. Gudjohnsen or Keita out, Hleb to midfield and some new winger in. Don't think it's that hard to understand...

The thing is we now still can get a good price for him (15 million). Next year he'll be 29 (birthday in may), so if he again has a bad season, you'll already be glad to offload him for 5 million. Difficult...

I agree with you groga. And if O. Marseille decide to splash 15M for Keita, it's already something around 30M and it's great position to start negotiating Silva or Ribery transfer. Not to mention that Barca can cash in on Henry, Gudjohnsen and Milito as well. All depends on Pep & Txiki agreement.
