Possible new bid for Silva

Italian newspaper La Stampa claims that Barcelona could make a new bid for Valencia left winger and Spanish international David Silva (23).

Due to the club's financial problems, Valencia would have dropped the intitial asking price from 30 to 20 million euro°, a fee that should be paid immediately (read more here).

Juventus would already have put a bid of between 16 and 18 million euro on the table but because Barcelona would still be interested in the Spanish winger (read more here) and could therefore raise that bid, the Italian club now wants to close the deal as soon as possible.

ribery is faster, stronger, more creative, scores easier and above all; better ;)

20m is a bargain though

Silva is much cheaper. We should take this while we can. The reports about Ribery's inclination have not been encouraging of late.

Silva is a good player, inventive, combative and sufficiently versatile. Should also take less time to adapt to our game.

This also seems like the most probable buy for the LW, given that Valencia have to sell, the player is Spanish, Barca would have had enough of a look at him to be confident of his ability and lastly because the asking price has gone down so early.

iniesta is better than silva ! common.. lets bring ribery!!!

i agree that iniesta is better. I'm not totally convinced over silva. but 20m is not much, he has technical and passing skills and he's young. difficult choice!

This is a difficult one. I don't agree whith the fact that Ribery is better than Silva. Perhaps at some aspects but not overall. The advantage with Silva, apart from him beeing cheeper (if the numbers mentioned are valid at all), is that he already know the spanish league in and out. Ribery on the other hand is two years older and havent prooved himself in a top-league yet. However there is no doubt that he is a good player and will most certainly be able to adjust to Barca quite fast.

A bargain. Get him!

...best we can buy...silva is a must as he showed at the euro 2008 together with iniesta and xavi...better option as a striker would be in case holding etoo...ribery seems also not realistic because of munich...they surely don't let him go with his long contract...

To Bogman: The Bundesliga is a top league! It isn't as good overall as La Liga but the defense is just as good. Maybe even better.

The thing that I like most about Silva other than his price tag and gelling well with Iniesta and Xavi is that he's very versatile.. he already is known as LW but can also play on the right and plays for Valencia as an AMC.. So, we may also have a backup for Xavi and Messi if we get him (I mean backup only).. Pep certainly wanted him at the beginning of the season and I wonder if he regrets the decision to stay at Valencia..

For this price a must buy. With silva we have genuine width out left. Silva most likely will improve in the future.

Silva is not good enough for Barca because he is not a true game-winning player who carries the team over his shoulders. Its incredible that some of you crave him so badly. He is almost as useless as Hleb. It would be a disaster if Barca offloads Henry and then tries to "replace" him with a player who scores 2-3 goals a season. How would we cover that about 12-15 goal deficit?! If you play with 4-3-3, everyone in tridente must score over 10 goals. Only Aguero, Persie and Ribery should be considered if the team buys a new left winger. In the future Iniesta should be used in left flank only if learns to score.

I like Silva a lot. A very high quality player. For 20 million it is a bargain. The problem is that Valencia want the money NOW, they dont want to wait till the end of the season. I cannot see us buying anybody till the end of the season. It limits our options and come the summer when players like Ribery or Aguero might be options. Ribery wants to leave Bayern but he is not going to admit that till the end of the season. Do you remember how much Henry and Hleb denied any transfer rumors?!?!?

I see Ribery as a possibility and he is better than Silva. He would cost twice as much but I think he has more potential to become one of the true greats. He is quite remarkable at times AND he scores goals. Silva doesnt really score goals, he will pop up every now and then (like Iniesta) and score a goal, but he doesnt really score more than 5 or 6 goals a season. Ribery is a pure winger with a goal scorers instinct. If i had to to chose one player for the left hand side it would definitely be Ribery.

Here watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ge9qsI4rhxE

Now tell me he wouldnt be the sickest left wing for our team. Can you imagine Ribery, Eto'o and Messi? With Henry coming off the bench. Forget about it. We would demolish anything that gets in our way.

I think Silva is terrific and would easily mesh well at Barca...Plus, 20 Million is a bargain.

However, the aim should be to land Ribery...He is a game changer the same way Messi is, IMHO.

many say that ribery is better than silva.i agree too but will it be easy to take him from bayern?the answer is no .it would take 40+million but we can get silva with 20mill and we all know that xavi-silva-iniesta is a succesfull combination from the euro.

i was once pro silva, then pro ribery ,now i am pro silva again hehe.

Everything discussed here by earlier posts are very valid. I cant argue with any of those points.

The one thing I would like to push on yet again is goal scoring. It has been brought up. It needs to be discussed again. Everyone seems certain Henry will leave. Why, I ask? Why?

Dolce makes a very good point. If we get rid of Henry, we need a winger that scores atleast half the goals he does and contributes to the other half with serious assists. Henry is NOT BAD! He has been amazing this season. Lets not forget this.

Sure, he wont last more than a season more, perhaps 2 as a supersub. Still, this is not reason enough to buy a promising talent to take his place. We need the goals Henry scores. The replacement has to be willing to sit on the bench for 60% of the next season if Henry remains.

If we bring in someone to simply replace Henry (meaning the frenchman leaves) he needs to score atleast 15 goals. Can Silva or Ribery do this?

Its an important question to ask...

I want Ribery simply because he is a better dribbler with the ball, the problem with Henry so far was trying to get rid of the Right full back of the opponent team in small space, if he got past him, well, you got Eto' and Messi waiting, Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets, D. Alves, Keita.. all pouring in the box, Henry has scored many goals with tap-ins than with one on one, but again his runs like in the games against Valencia and Lyon were so great to split the defence open wide and receive the ball and put it past the keeper with ease. yet again it is something that Ribery can do.
