Barcelona president visits Mali

Barcelona president Joan Laporta and a delegation from the club travelled to Mali yesterday. Together with Barcelona player Seydou Keita, Laporta inaugurated the first XICS centre in Mali.

The centre in Bamako is the biggest yet in the Network of Solidarity Centres of Barcelona's foundation. It will be supporting almost one hundred children aged between 7 and 16 years in vulnerable situations.

Keita said Barça’s implication in his country was something very special to him. “It is an honour that Barça’s Foundation is working in Bamako to promote education and make it possible for children from here to be future lawyers, architects...”

After the inauguration, the Barcelona delegation also met with the Malian president Amadou Toumani Touré in the presidential palace.

Laporta has been a great president for Barca. He helped take over a very challenging situation. The faults we've encountered have proven to not be institutional. We had a bad run of two years, but the club functions as intended. No other club in the world does things like Barca.

Mes que un club. Visca Barca!

Very interesting how people's view of Laporta has changed over the last few months. I was at the last game of the season last year when Barça lost to Mallorca 3-2... the fans would have had his head if he dared to come outside! Barça si, Laporta no! Barça si, Laporta no!

I dont think my view of Laporta has changed that much. Sometimes in life you get upset and have disagreements. But it does not mean that you cannot ever have a favourable view of the person you had the disagreement with ever again. I have always said that laporta was the president who brought ronaldinho to the camp nou and ended the trophy drought and i will always be grateful to him for that.
