Barcelona faces Bayern Munich in quarter finals

Today at 12:00 pm, the draw for the rest of the Champions League took place. Barcelona will play the quarter-finals against Bayern Munich. If they qualify, the next opponent will be the winner of the Chelsea-Liverpool tie.

Barcelona-Bayern Munich
Liverpool-Chelsea

Manchester United-Porto
Villarreal-Arsenal

pep's opinion:
we avoid the english teams, bayern cannot be a problem if you want to win this competition. but we're clearly in the most difficult part of the table with a possible game against liverpool or chelsea coming up and we're not having the home advantage, which has proven to be very important in the champions league over the last years and could be decisive in the 1/2 finals. in general a rather dull draw, seems like the 1/8 fnals had more clashes.

LOL we have to play all of our first games at home as well. In the quarters and semis.I just cant stop laughing at our draw, we will have to do it the hard way if we are gonna win this thing.

the hardest draw we could get.... whatever noone said it would be easy (well it is for man utd :s)

Pretty fucked up draw I must say, manchester on other hand will have an easy path to the Finals, as for Barca it is going to be that easy if we want to win it this season. And all our first games at home shiit, it doesnt sound good at all.

couldnt get worse. i hope porto put united out lucks c**ts.

"blaugrana" :DDDD

Could've been worse. The home disadvantage is bad, but Bayern is probably the best opponent we could get, except for Porto.
Anyway, if we really want to win this trophy, we shouldn't care about the draw. The winner should be the best team, not the one with the easiest draw.

i'm afraid we lose everything!
la liga is not in our hands anymore

i agree with mihawk except its the home stretch and we have those possibly tricky league games whc means pep will have to summon all his powers to keep the boys fresh and fit which problem man utd will have less of cos they will walk over porto for sure. heck they can even use half their 2nd team and win handily. lucky b@stards.

hey, it's not because it's harder that it's impossible.. this draw will make it all the more beautiful if we make it to the final.

Bayern is a very tough draw, there forwards have the attributes to xploit our defensive frailties. After that we get Chelsea/Liverpool, pretty shit draw. Man U get it easy, hate them and liverpool!!!!

People are saying this will be an easy draw but it wont. Set pieces have been Barcelona's problem and the last 10 goals scored by Bayern have been from set pieces and long balls. Plus, they have one of the tallest teams in the world while we have one of the shortest! I think Klose is out for the match through injury. And remember, Ribery plays on the left and will face off against Alves and Alves gets dribbled past easily when players try to cut in the box like Messi and thats all Ribery does! I'm sure we will concede like 3-5 goals throughout the two legs but our forwards will save us by scoring 6-8 goals!

well the draw i wanted, happened to manu just great, give manu a ticket to the final when they going through a bad patch or we might actually see braca-arsenal repeat may never know, football is weird place where things does happen. They saying bayern have the attacking skills to reveal barca defensive frailties lol, bayern's defense is also quite poor and barca will be the one revealing how bad a defense can reaaly get.. lahm vs messi haha not only is messi faster but also stronger and taller which is rare.. lahm will have no time to go forward.. toni vs puyol marquez/pique i don't see toni doing anything, he is slow and won't be any threat on the counterattack(barca also beat sporting by alot of goals and that was in group stage when they were in form). klose will be out of the clash so most likely podolski will play and he is nowhere near a top club player. Ribery vs dani Alves, the thought just gave me nightmares no need to explain why just hope yaya reads the game properly and cover for alves. barca 3-1 bayern at camp nou. bayern 2-2 barcelona at Allianz Arena(if thats the correct name)

Man U Vs Porto !???! Lucky Bastard , Man U !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bayern Munich should not be a problem for us, I believe. More importantly, Liverpool or Chelsea match.... Liverpool most possible will be our next one...tough tough match.....><

Gutted.....I was hoping Barca was going to get Man Utd and put them in their place - now that's going to have to wait to the final with either Barca/Liverpool taking them on - either way I'm confident Man Utd won't be retaining the title this year !!

auite true Marc4barca. i agree with u. but i dont think that we should underestimate podolski. that guy can cause a huge upset. this is what i feel. we'll have to be careful of their counter attacks and set piece. i dont see them scoring any other way. lets hope for the best!

Podolski is such an overrated player. He doesn't score much and isn't even a regular starter at Bayern.
We've got to watch out for Ribery, control him and you are in control of the team.

Playing the first leg at home is a MAJOR disadvantage. History has shown that a huge percent (I forgot but way above %50) of teams that played the second leg at home won.

Also with Bayern we don't know how strong they really are this season because they haven't been tested. The way they raped Sporting Lisbon makes me think they're one of the top 4 teams in the world now (Barca, Man U, Liver).

I just hope it will be a repeat of the Euro 2008 final, when our midfielders took the game away from the Germans.

Its a great draw according to me...coz Barca has to fight till death to reach the final..and my serious guess is its going to be a CL 2006 final repeat with Arsenal, even though I would love to see ManU to complete the revenge for last year's loss...Bayern is a tough team, but so was Lyon..I am sure we can see them off, if we play like we did in second game against Lyon..I dont give too much importance to we playing away in the second leg, because we are the best in the world in this season...Puyol will be back for Bayern, hopefully Milito will be ready for second leg of 1/4...and I am sure Barca defenders would have learnt from their mistakes by now...We will meet Chelsea in 1/2, and then ManU in Final...Barca 7 - Bayern 2 on aggregate.. Love FCB

...from now on there are no easy draws...if you want to win it,you have to beat all...no club made it by luck till here...munich is not so bad when you could also get manu, chelsea or liverpool...when barca plays it well and take there chances they get to score and don't have to force theirselves by playing it easy, there's nothing to win for munich...no disrespect, but munichs most danger comes from ribery, who comes with fast dribblings and opens spaces for the others...when we stop him feeding toni with passes or playing with schweinsteiger it's realistic to beat them...hope for the best...cl has it's own law...but we the blaugranas,babeeee...ONE LOVE!!!!!

why do we not have home advantage for the quarters and semis?

could sum1 please explain how getting home advantage was determined?

Chris... its how they pick the teams. The first team picked within a group of 2 is the home team.

Luca Toni is a striker who has been effectively countered by many teams. The Serie A teams were just getting the hang of him when he transferred. Beyond the normal striker opportunism and the tall target man role what he has is a good turn for a tall man and intelligent running.

Presumably he will have to play alone up front as Bayern try to lock down midfield. German teams are normally very systematic for Messi they will :
1. make a lot of early fouls
2. try to force him to cut inside so that he doesn't isolate any defender. So he might be seeing more of Ze Roberto than Lahm.

3. being more comfortable playing with a high defense (than EPL teams)they might try that so that the game is compressed into a small area in the center of the pitch, thus breaking down passing in midfield.

This will leave them vulnerable to the counter. We might do ourselves a favour by changing our style of play early so as to more resemble Arsenal when they had Henry to take advantage of this.

we all talk about ribery, but i believe that if we can oveplay ze roberto and van bommel than ribery his effectivness will be cut in half, xavi and iniesta vs van bommel and ze roberto for me that will be the key.

We shouldn't fear Bayern one bit, theyre 'shaky' defense will be destroyed by the best attacking formation in Europe, However should Liverpool beat Chelsea we will have to play at Anfield in the second leg of the semi's, this would be hard especially if we come out of the Camp Nou with a 0-0 result, we must make sure we make our home games count, that includes the Bayern game, If we win the first leg at home Outstandingly then Guardiola will be able to play a more defensive lineup in the second leg, and we can play more passing and possesion football, 19 days to go, VISCA EL BARCA!!!!

Marc4barca said...

defensive line-up? lol nope not Barcelona, if we win 3-1 or 4-0 you can bet barca going second leg and attack even more.

Barca is weak in defence. Bayern will win this match on counter attacks. First leg 2:1 for barca with the away goal by a standard. Second leg 1:0 for Bayern.
