Wenger pointing at Barcelona players

Speaking at a press conference about a diving accident involving Arsenal player Eduardo during the Arsenal-Celtic game, Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger earlier this week tried to pull Barcelona players Messi and Pedro into the debate:

"Uefa have made the case of Eduardo. If you watch the Super Cup on Friday then they will have to charge Lionel Messi for headbutting or they will lose credibility. They have opened something there that over the weekend I'll find you 50 situations where they can intervene, or if they don't Eduardo will be singled out for being a wrong victim.

I do not want Messi to be punished but if they go for Eduardo then people will demand it. Pedro, also of Barcelona, dived as well in the Super Cup and so I don't think there's any logic to Eduardo's case. We have clear proof that from behind he was touched on his right leg.

There is no common sense. I believe it was a more emotional decision really because if Uefa had said before the season starts, 'Listen, let's get together and no matter what happens in Uefa games, if we suspect someone of diving he will be punished' then you could say, ok, we've always been told they will do that. But suddenly, out from nowhere because it was an emotional situation in Scotland, we have this situation and have to live with that."

thats lame for a genius like wenger

Pedro dived? You can't compare it to Eduardo, which was one of the most outrageous dives in history.

Why is Wenger so obsessed with criticizing Barcelona? Last year he said several times that FCB couldn't even compete for the Premier League if they were in.

I think the title is a bit sensationalist if I may say so.

He is just trying to make a case to save his player. Let him be. I think it's in rather poor taste and it just shows how insecure Barca makes him - not just transfers but any context. The grapes are sour. Both he and SAF baffle me regularly with their pearls of wisdom.

May be Fabregas has really become a pain in the ass for him :P

It's a Barça blog so we focus on the Barça side of stories, Knives. Keeping that in mind, this is like the most neutral title you can get.

And compare with the tweet, thàt one might be a bit sensationalist...

Two weeks ago, he said (check the link), that Barcelona is art to him. I'll stick with that quote.

can't wait to see cr9 get his suspensions for constant diving. well, steven gerrard as well.

I think wenger is losing his nerves these days specially after the Man U game, but i also think that he is right in a way: should we punish everyone who dive?or we should only punish those who dive and obtain a penalty?

Wenger stop blaming others, its you who is teaching players to dive. If you write dive in youtube, its full of Arsenal players.

Same old Arsenal, always cheating.

Cristina would be banned from international football if these rules count :D quite lame from wenger to blame barca players too

Pedro got a yellow card for his dive, he should not be discussed in this context. He was punished, end of story

Moltisanti said...

There is one thing what the "70-year old lady" forgets: Messi and Pedro got their 'reward', they got a yellow card.
But Eduardo dived and didn't get booked, instead of awarded a penalty.

Arse Wenger always was and will be an arrogant French guy.

LOL you guys make me laugh. He isn't criticizing Barca- he is just pointing to the fact that in every game there are tons of incidents that can be punished later on and that it is unfair to punish Eduardo if you aren't going to punish everyone...

Tudor said...

Bu he wants to say that the punishment must be the same....If Pedro got yellow card...How can Eduardo get two match ban...Rooney dived in game against Arsenal and got the penalty and scored...He didn`t get any punishment...

This is the point of the story...I think we all want that all players are equal in every situation...If one is banned after watching video than others must be also...

That is my point of view

totally lame!

its okay if he merely wanted to save dudu's butt in the situation but the comparisons were poor at best cos like someone else pointed out the 2 players were punished Eduardo was not and instead gained an advantage for his team. arsene's got a chip on his shoulder cos of the cesc rumoured transfer, it kind of showed right there so his statements do not surprise at all.

thats why everybody hates wenger lol.

u insecure barca fans r ridiculous. it's true messi shud've been punished for what he did, after he pushed off the defender then headbutted him, i wasn't too surprised he did what he did and got away with it (cuz he's messi). pedro on the other hand was punished already, so wenger probably shudn't hav mentioned him. in any case, wenger seems to b a fan of barca, paying attention to all that's happening :)

messi got panished already,he got yellow card.

WTH mike??! Messi got a yellow card for the headbutt. As a matter of fact The defender has triggered Messi to do that. He's the one who put the head on Leo first-off.

Messi should have been punished, you aren't allowed to put your head to another player, and Srna could have also gotten a red. But you won't see Arsene Wenger saying anything about it because it wasn't Barcelona. And their heads were all ready touching, so I don't think it was a headbutt, but a headpush. Still a red though.

Than the Pedro one wasn't a dive, but it wasn't a foul. He was trying to get the ball even though he had already lost his balance, and tried to go inbetween two players. He wasn't trying to cheat the ref, he was being persistent.

Apparently, the Arse doesn't just fixate on Barca's youth players to poach, he also looks to knock the starters too.

I won't buy Pedrito's drop in the box as a dive, even Ilsinho went back to pick him up as replays clearly showed him putting his shoulder into the player...It's not even a debate...Plus, last I checked, no one got a penalty and he DID get booked...Sooooo

And Messi?...The headbutt was poor play from the player but he too was booked for his efforts...So looks like Arse is simply trying to deflect attention from his own players diving for penalties AND winning them by looking at Barca players who actually received punishment on the pitch rather than reward.

Is this a French thing?

Arsene Wenger is a cunt.Btw,when i saw Eduardo's replay,i laughed my heads out.Everyone in my family was all laughing at him. It's so "TUUTing" obvious that he dived. Arsene must accept that and sop complaining because you are a bad coach and you will not win any titles again this year,Mark my words.Eduardo,Great player he may be but a natural at cheating just like Cristiano.

creus said...

I agree that it was wrong to punish Eduardo, but he shouldn't point out Barças players like that.

kalaq said...

He just want to release his anger of his team that fail to win against man utd that all...
Very lame for someone like him..

barcagirl said...

Well, he is in EPL... no need to say more.

It is not wrong to punish eduardo, an example has to be set and eduardo is the perfect victim, and it is working as many players over the weekend has been booked for diving, Mcgeady was shown his second yellow, what this will do will put into players head that they are running a risk if they dive, the rule was to book players for diving but most referees wernt doing it, we see more strict ref's on diving already so its perfect to use eduardo as an example so diving will be less.

Only shows that he watches our games.

Am appalled by this idiotic comparison by this guy who clearly is a failure in Europe. In Wenger's mind Messi and Eduardo are just players that should recieve equal treatment if they commit the same offense. Strange as it seems your stature influence your treatment. He must be living in a different planet. We dont turn up our TV to watch the cheat that is Eduardo.

Jay said...

He just want to tell Eduardo to dive better next time. Don't get caught.

lame for a genius like wenger?
that's exactly the wenger i know!!!
this whiny, envious, freaky, clowny bastard.
sorry for my words, but to make clear how much i disrespect and hate this fool, would need to get much more dirty.
never liked this unsuccessful, overated clown.
with beautiful game you win matches, but there's much more needed to win the league

Yaya said...

I doubt his intentions were to say anything against Barca but he knows that everyone was watching Supercup so he took us as example, which he is right and I agree with him, the rules should be the same for everyone. Imagine how would WE react if one of our players was banned for two matches for diving, Wenger has every right to be angry.

LeónDragón said...

can't disagree more with you yaya.
that's not the first time and surely not the last stupid thing coming out from this master-of-desaster-clown.
about refs fergie or other b's'.
he should take it like a man and should blame eduardo for his dumbness and should stop this always-whiny-chicken-babyboy-behaviour.
for me as a fan, wouldn't like to see my clubs players diving like this, as a sportsman, would get angry bout this player.
but instead of blaming edu, this clown do what he's best, talking b***s***, unable to win something, being mes que un loser.
never liked this clown, exactly for that reason, so stop defending this freak please.
over & out!

Hard to imagine those comments came from a witty person like Wenger. If it's true, he's lost respect from me.

Arsene Wenger is just a bitter jerk . He has been coaching for 28+ years and he has NEVER won anything in Europe . Oh, he is also jealous of Barça's success and everything Barça. He even tries to copy Barça style . There are many pretenders and WANNABES but only one Barça . Deal with it,Wenger !!
