The End (final draft)

Today, I have to basically repeat what I already said a little two months ago. Some changes in my personal life mean that I won't have the time anymore that I think is necessary to keep up the level of this blog nor to get things organized for people to join in and deliver more of the same. The quality of the content has always been our main concern and quality asks time.

We didn't only bring the big stories that attract the most readers. We didn't only check the main sources and took the most sensational stories from there. We actually checked my sources. We didn't take advantage of the work of others by copy-pasting stories from other sites. But so all that asks a lot of time.

This started as a little personal blog to keep track of what really was going on and it has been growing ever since until the peak we have today. I'm pretty sure that the experts wouldn't have given a cent for this ugly duck without 2.0 stuff but I think we have shown that with a sense for quality and hard work alone you can become the number one and attract the most readers.

And still there was so much more to do. We were perfectly aware of the weak points of this place but knew at the same time exactly how those could be solved. It's a little frustrating to have the blueprint of the perfect Barça fan site in your head but knowing at the same time you won't be able to make it work.

It should have become a combination of :
- a Barcelona news and opinion machine (independent from the madridista-controlled spanish and english language -and so international- media),
- a charity machine (this gives me the chance to inform you that because of the growing number of visitors and benefits - and a little contribution from my side - we will be able to let two African children finish the primary school, thank you for that!),
- a place for people from all over the world to meet,
- a place for young and/or talented people to develop some skills in an international environment.

Will I miss it? Yes. I already do and I will even more if I start reading stories that are mistranslated, misinterpreted, twisted or sensationalized. Or if I read stories that won't be picked up by the mainstream media. I will have to do without my continuous Barcelona news shots and with the knowledge I won't be any longer the probably best informed Barcelona fan in the world.

Will this blog be back? Never say never, but don't count on it. Will I be back? Maybe with some little things in the margin that don't ask a lot of time. If it's good, you will hear about it. If you cannot wait, you probably should follow things on twitter. Men or women with a plan who think I can be of any help, know where they can find me. In general, I will from now on be among the millions of anonymous readers out there and maybe in the future contributing behind the scenes to the greatness of the club.

I saw that last time many people asked about where to go to now. Regarding the news in English, it is probably best to combine the well-known football news sites and the club's official website with the newsnow.com stream. To know more, you should start learning Spanish and Catalan.

Regarding the discussion side, I first think that this blog was mainly a news source and wasn't really the most suited place to discuss things. There are many thousands of places out there where you can discuss Barcelona --- blogs, sites, forums, social networks, in English and/or your own language, focused on Barcelona only or on football or sport in general.

After the treble successes, some people have jumped on the Barcelona band wagon and new projects have been launched in the past weeks. And some more projects are being prepared and are expected to start off soon, so I guess the brainstorm sessions to attract you as reader are already going on. And the disappearance of this blog will probably lead to some more projects being set up. You can only benefit from that. Every place has its own vibe, so just google a bit around and I'm sure you will find yourself a new spot.

The live match chat will go on, bookmark it now. Besides that, I just want to point out this little hidden pearl and – because I still owe someone something – this forum, the grand old lady of Barcelona sites in English and run by people who are only in it because of the love for the club and not to satisfy an oversized ego or to win some easy money. My kind of culé basically.

This blog will stay up as a remembrance of the best year ever in the history of the greatest club. If you're going through a bad time, you can come and get some renewed energy here.

I want to thank all the people who have been involved with this blog, writing things, translating things, looking for things, sending me suggestions, offering their help. They made this blog to what it was. Over the past weeks, I couldn't keep everything turning anymore like I should, some plates went to the ground, except my apologies for that.

I want to thank you for reading, commenting and spreading the word. I have enjoyed the ride, I hope you had a good time too. It has been a pleasure serving you, take care.

Visca'l Barça!

A site I used to check first thing in the morning. I will miss it for sure.

Ok! I'm being a little selfish here.

Can anyone here from India shed some light on why they didn't show the first round of la liga on ESPN STAR. I was so desperate I had to listen to Radio Barca on the net for live commentary. Any rights issues. Will they be sorted soon?
I heard there's a channel SUPERSPORT that shows all games from all leagues.
Should I get that one if ESPN STAR aren't telecasting the entire la liga season.

Help!!! This is a double blow for me. First no live telecast of la liga. and now this site closing down. That hurts!

I thought this was coming, Pep, when I saw how many stories you were putting up yourself and started imagining how much of your time it was taking. Thanks so much (again) for all your wonderful work in bringing us quality Barca news and commentary in English for more than a year -- all in one convenient place. Good luck with everything else in your life and any other projects you may undertake. If you apply the same standards and discipline to them as you did to this endeavour, I'm sure you'll do extremely well (you now know where to come for a reference letter!)

Sure, everyone, this blog will be missed but, on the bright side, not having it will save me an hour a day. Maybe I'll spend the time saved on actually getting out and playing some more football myself or brushing up on my nearly all-forgotten Catalan! ;-)

Thanks again, pep, and good luck. To everyone else, I hope to come across some of you in the Barca internet fan community throughout another exciting and successful year for the team.

Visca el Barca!

Problem is to run a blog like this you basically need University students that have a lot of free time to help out with many of the tasks. I am not longer that and I have long hours of work so i cant help pep, Kamikaze Kontiki has been away on work as well and with Pep extra busy it means that the personel to do this just isnt there.

We have had fun, the last time Pep tried to close it down I tried to jumpstart it and keep in on life support but as somebody who was working for this blog i could tell that pep was taking on way too much in the past few weeks. Its painful yes to see it go, will it be restarted? never say never.

Pep, i want to sincerely thank you for giving me the opportunity to work here, it was a great experience and I learned a lot. I want to thank you for featuring my videos and articles and I want to wish you all the best. Maybe one day when things are a little less hectic we'll jumpstart this blog again.

Hi Pep, I almost expected this because most of the articles were still posted from you.
It must have been an enormous effort to keep this blog alive on such a high level - the highest level I've ever experienced for a blog mainly run by a single person.
I did not comment that much on your blog, also because some users seem to be immature and not really ready for discussion. Nevertheless I've visited your site regularly to check out all the news, no faked news such at from goal.com but the essential, true news about our beloved club. I want to thank you for all the work you put into this blog (I cannot express in words how much I appreciated it), as a Barca fan you didn't need anything else to be perfectly informed about the club.
I wish you good luck for the future and I will keep this blog in my heart forever, just like Barca.
Farewell

Thanks Pep a lot, and to everyone who contributed (barca4life and Ramzi, especially, but everyone else too).

I am a student and have enough time to sit on internet but still the blog that i m trying to maintain does not come any close to urs in terms of quality or spontaneity. Thanks for the great work over time, starting reading it last summer and I don't know any other sports club who had a place like this. I mean, note ven English clubs have a news source like this one in English, it was insane.

There is nothing like this, guys. You have some blogs, like oleole or the offside or the former offside guys, but they are more about opinions and not about news stories like this place. So for news stories you'll have to visit the regular news site like goal.com or tribalfootbal.com.

I just thought of an idea.

I am not saying that Pep should do it, but anyone from the team, as it is easier.

The idea is to post just once per day. That one post would contain the headlines of the day (something short). If there is a link to the story, it's good to put that too.

Is anybody interested?

Sad day, Pep. You were one of the very first Barca blogs that I came to love and admire, even before I started visiting (and writing for) The Offside. Every time you came there to visit you brought something new and interesting to the conversation.

We'll miss you, and this space, as there is no other space like this one, and that's speaking as someone who contributes to another Barca-crazed space.

The one constant about life is that it does indeed move on. I, as everyone else does I'm sure, wish you all the best in your future endeavors. And of course, you still love the club, so don't be a stranger. FY your own I, we're over at www.barcelonafootballblog.com.

Again, thanks for everything, and Pep's Place (how many of us came to think of things here) will always have a good spot in our memories.

Visca l'Barca!

Pep, thank you again for all you have done. I've been reading since the beginning. The start of the Transfer season before the Treble when all we were worried about were the new additions to the club. Little did we know how far we would go.

This is indeed the best Barca site on the net and I agree about the BS Madrista based media, even Goal.com, like someone mentioned seems to have a bone to pick with our beautiful club but we push on.

Ramzi, Kamikaze Kontiki, NouBarca, Barca4Life and others as well that I have forgotten I appreciate the insight you have given me on Barca and the beautiful game. I hope we may interact on a Barca site elsewhere.

Being from the USA I also really appreciate the level of worldwide communication we have here.

Cule's represent the Blaugrana with pride.

Good luck to all and to this years campaign.

Always remember, Mes Que Un Club.

I've gotten some interest so far and I want to perhaps have a meeting in the fcbtransfers chatroom sometime soon to see if we can plot a way forward and if its feasible to do anything new. As Pep has said there may be a few other people interested in doing their own blog. I think it would be for the best if all such people came together to see if they can work together to create something new.

Let me be clear, we are not restarting fcbtransfers, this was Pep's baby and i think he should have ultimate control over this blog. What I am discussing is starting something new, maybe a bit smaller that deals with a little less at first basically just news, previews, match stats and highlights.

Very sad news indeed.. However, I would sincerely like to thank you for all the work you put into this blog ..

As you mention yourself, the news have been well written, and the number of articles per day has been tremendous..

I'm rather interested in what happens now, with some of the other staff members - Ramizi (Ramzi?), Barca4Life and so on.. Are they planning to create a new blog or write for Barcelista or something alike?

Anyways, i would like to help out the existing staff if they would be interested in continuing their great work.

I sincerely hope that this blog has gathered enough followers, so that we, the users, can form a new group, that will be able to carry on this blog.

I suppose I'm a little better prepared now since it already was 'dead in the water' once...Still, it's a real bummer to see the blog go down as it probably was one of my top 4 sites to visit on a daily basis.

It'll be missed, hoping it will be back again.

If not, know all of you were part of something great for fans.

Truth is I don't want to make a comment for I was hoping for a 2nd resurrection. I just got this feeling someone, somewhere will set up something that gathers all 300+ of Pep's followers but it has to be quick before they move on to other sites. I will visit this blog and Pep's tweet everyday for any "we're back!" announcement.

And to Anurag, you're my sole barca discussion blog for now tho I understand your difficulty in keeping it up due to your studies.

Thank you Leon for the shout-out. Thank you too to all those that provide all those very meaningful discussions with every article. Believe me, I've read almost all of them which is why this blog is the best for me, un-moderated, real-time comments from real fans and a few rivals.

Anyway, see you guys at Live Chats for now till a new blog comes up.

Pep,
To be honest i wasn't into writing comments on this blog so you probably didn't hear from me before but you can say that I have never missed a news on this blog.

Man you gathered the whole world together, what you've done here is more than posting news about FCB people from everywhere are talking and chatting to each other on this website. You've done what presidents and leaders have failed to do!

Anyway, just want to thank you, for me you are a hero and a great person.

Wish you all the best in your champions league season :)

it's such a pity... giovani dos santos is realizing his potential with the national team; too bad barca fans booed him away too soon. i liked the way he played, even more so than bojan (tho they're different players n shud not be compared head to head). he's exactly the type of player barca's looking for this summer, attacking midfielder who can play on the wing... pacey, dangerous... sigh... SIGH!!

LeónDragón said...

hope also for a 2nd resurrection, but think, that this time, it seems to be over.
last time people called to help, but at the end i think, the work was again always on pep, as we saw by the topics.
it's a pitty, but have big respect for pep's decision and the work he did.
other alternatives would be nice, but believe, that we all will miss the special thing, that was going on on this blog (with respect for those, who work on something new!)
however, again, thanks from the heart and hope your way leads to all kind of success, by health and work, and wish you the best pep, for your life, as you gave us the possibility to get informed on a high level about barca and a place, where cules could discuss and feel unity...
ONE LOVE & SOM UN (good luck & peace out to every piece of the whole, that gave this blog a soul and speech...keep it up!!!!!

Yes, there was attempts to bring the blog back the first time, and there was a huge plan to organize everything between people, but in the end, Pep was still doing 90% of the posts. Like somebody mentioned before, I believed that things would have to come to an end soon: and I was right.

I know that none you even care about me or who I am, but I was very glad to have done all those translations for everybody. There's only so much you can learn from reading ESPN and Goal.com and typical boring quotes. I wasn't as passionate as Pep to have been able to write 10 or more posts per day, but every translation I did was done for the sole purpose of making interviews accessible to the rest of the world.

None of you ever forget the meaning of "mes que un club". This blog proved what this club is all about. Supporting good causes, bringing people together from all over the world because of one passion, and experiencing "Barcelonismo" and a historical season as one.

That being said, I hope that this page doesn't continue. Maybe somebody will make another blog soon, but this is the Fcbtransfers of Pep and Pep's hard work should remain intact. Despite everybody appreciating Pep's hard work, some of you still wouldn't understand how incredibly HARD he has been working to deliver quality. We can all draw inspiration for our future endeavors in blogging and other things.

Thank you for everything, Pep.

I have been looking but I cant find any good Barca blogs. Don't tell me that this is the only blog that had 15-20 new posts everyday! I dont want blogs than only have 1 new post every other day because even goal.com would be better than that. I want all the news.

Thanks a lot Pep! Thanks for your excellent work, and for everything you gave us thru this blog.
I respected your first decision, and I do respect it now! I'm sorry I could not volunteer to help out after you have called times and times for help. However, I did not volunteer only because I was sure I wont have the time to contribute.
Anyways now, I would like to wish you good luck Pep in your work and in life!
I'll miss this blog a looooot.

Hey, hey, hey, what's going on here?! I'm out of town for a couple of days and this thing shuts down?! Can't I leave you alone for just a second?!

Ok, I'm just trying to shout my upcoming tears away...

This is NOT good. This blog has been there from the lowest point in recent history (the pasillo at the Bernabeu) until the highest point in maybe the whole history (the five cups) and now it leaves us homeless.

Hope some new guys can make something in the same spirit and with the same quality, but when you look around on the internet, you see nothing coming even close to (and I didn't look for other football clubs) the combination of number of posts and quality of posts we had here.

It's just unbelievable that this (with some assistance) was the work of only one person. Respect, thank you and all the luck!

By the way Pep and all others involved, i just want to say thanks for a remarkable job...i will miss you all

I have been visiting this site at least once a day hoping it would come back to life

Not yet

But i will continue visiting for as long as new comments are posted.. so far 141 posts... i will be back tomorrow to check if the number has to 142 or 143

Kind regards

I still can't get over this blog. I loved it so much. Pep, you had created something really awesome and we had here a community of very like minded people (with obvious differences as well) which is probably impossible to create anywhere else.

I know you probably miss this blog more than any of us here. But I hope the decision you made gives you more happiness from other sources. What is most important is that your "net happiness" must increase.

Anyways, if anything makes your mind change, please do come back right here. We'll check this page for a long, long time. I will even be able to pay for a blog like this in a few months from now.

Best wishes, adieu and good luck pep.

Pep, since it's easier to contact you here rather than Yahoo!/Google, i would like to ask a big favour from you. Well, i've been thinking and i've come up with an idea to 'take over' your wonderful and prestigious Barca blog.I mean why not? me and a 4-6 Cules team up and bring this blog back to the old days. This blog will be more 'co-ordinated' then. That would in a way make certain Cules happier. Our team will promise you the same class as yours. However, i have one problem. That is that i don't freaking have a damn team. Other than that, no prob. So what do you think about the offer? You could still be the 'boss' here. The advertisements profits will all go to you for the children of Africa. After all, don't worry about my time. I have lots and lots of free time. Promise me that you'll consider this offer.People whho would like to help can e-mail me at tengkuamir_10@yahoo[dot]com.

ibra in my opinion did a good game considering what he was doing under that huge pressure of 75.000 whistling at HIM did much better that ETOO.. the first 15 min of the game was for him!! he did good. messi played with his heart, to score at least a goal on his brazilian enem cessar!!

it was a good game for barca from tactics, defence, attack, possession, dominating the ball. shame on inter they just played unti-football!! just like the bastards chealse..

plzzzzzzzzzzzz pep get this blog back or i will do something similar to this under my supervision since you are not helping and just letting everything to go... barca fans need this blog in such quality so i might consider making this project as soon as possible and i will inform everyone on here.
