Youth: Carmona followed by European clubs

Italian football site Tuttomercatoweb claims that several European clubs are interested in Barcelona Juvenil A left wing attacker Adrià Carmona (17).

Tottenham, Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Sevilla, Manchester City, Panthinaikos and Borussia Dortmund would all be monitoring Carmona, but Barcelona would have no plans to let the Catalan winger leave.

Marseille and Galatasaray in for Gudjohnsen

Catalan sports paper Sport claims that, besides several English Premier League clubs, Barcelona attacker and Iceland international Eidur Gudjohnsen (30) is also followed by French club Marseille and Greek club Panathinaikos.

Barcelona wants to sell Gudjohnsen, whose contract expires next year, during the summer transfer window and is willing to listen to offers.

Turkish newspaper Zaman meanwhile claims that Galatasaray is also interested in Gudjohnsen. The Icelandic player would be on top of the wish list of new Galatasaray manager Frank Rijkaard and it's believed that officals from the Turkish club will meet with Gudjohnsen's agent this week.

Barça B: Valiente again close to Sevilla B

Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that Barcelona Atlètic central defender Marc Valiente (21 - picture on the right) is again close to joining Sevilla Atlético, the B team of Sevilla that plays in the Spanish second division.


Valiente, who has been told that he can leave Barcelona this summer, has also received an offer from Greek club Panathinaikos but Barcelona seems to prefer to negotiate with Sevilla. The two clubs would now have picked up the talks on a transfer after an earlier cancellation (read more here).

Asked about the latest rumours linking him with a move to Spanish second division team Celta Vigo (read more here), Valiente has said to the paper that he's unaware of the interest of that club.

Barça B: Valiente to Panathinaikos

Spanish football site Airfutbol claims that Barcelona Atlètic captain and central defender Marc Valiente (21) will join Greek club Panthinaikos on a free transfer.


New Panathinaikos manager Henk ten Cate knows the player from his time as assistant coach in Barcelona.

Catalan sports paper Sport claims that second division club Celta Vigo is also interested in Valiente and would like the include him in a deal with a Celta B player.

Barcelona site Pelikano claimed last week that Valiente had ended up in some kind of no man's land after his transfer to Sevilla B didn't went through (read more here), with the central defender not being allowed to join the first team nor the B team and with Barcelona not looking for another club.

Different negotiations on Gudjohnsen ongoing

Catalan sports paper Sport claims that during his stay in London last Friday, Barcelona sports vice president Marc Ingla met also with an intermediary who is looking for an English club that wants to transfer Barcelona attacker and Iceland international Eidur Gudjohnsen (29) to discuss the situation.

The paper claims that Greek club Panathinaikos, whose new manager Henk ten Cate is interested in Gudjohnsen (read more here), would have made Barcelona a first formal offer of 5 million euro° for the Icelandic striker.

British tabloid The Daily Mirror claims that Gudjohnsen is wanted by English Premier League clubs West Ham and Portsmouth (read more

Ex-Barça: Gerard van der Lem to Panathinaikos

Former Barcelona assistant coach Gerard van der Lem (55) has been appointed as assistant of new Panathinaikos manager Henk ten Cate (read more here). Van der Lem was dismissed in March as head coach of United Arab Emirates' club Al-Sharjah.

Gerard van der Lem was the first assistant of Barcelona manager Louis van Gaal between 1997 and 1999. The Dutchman arrived from Dutch club Ajax Amsterdam, where he also was Van Gaal's assistant. Two years later, Van der Lem left Barcelona to become manager of Dutch club AZ Alkmaar.

With Barcelona, Van der Lem won two consecutive Spanish league titles in 1998 and 1999, one European super cup in 1997 and one Spanish cup in 1998.

Ten Cate wants Gudjohnsen at Panathinaikos

Catalan sports paper Sport claims that former Barcelona assistant coach and newly appointed Panathinaikos manager Henk ten Cate (read more here) would like to bring Barcelona attacker and Iceland international Eidur Gudjohnsen (29) to Greece to strengthen his new team.


Gudjohnsen would nevertheless see a move to the Greek competition as a serious step back and wouldn't take a transfer into consideration. If Gudjohnsen leaves Barcelona this summer, a thing that is not certain, the player prefers to return to the English Premier League (read more here).

Ex-Barça: Henk ten Cate to Panathinaikos

Two weeks after he had been dismissed as Chelsea assistant coach (read more here), former Barcelona assistant coach Henk ten Cate (53) was yesterday appointed as the new Panathinaikos manager.


The statement on the official Panathinaikos website reads as follows: "Panathinaikos announces the hiring of the Dutch Henk ten Cate as Head Coach. Mr. ten Cate signed a 2 year contract and he will arrive in Greece at the end of June for his official presentation from the club."

In a first reaction to the Greek club's official media, Ten Cate showed his satisfaction about the move: "I'm delighted to have reached an agreement with Panathinaikos FC. In my career I have been used to working at the highest level of competition and that's one of the reasons why I consider this new step to be a great challenge. Panathinaikos' organization, history, ambition and attitude towards football in general match those of the greatest football clubs in Europe, so I'm confident that we will achieve our goals. I'm looking forward to coming to Athens and meeting my players."

Henk ten Cate was the first assistant of Barcelona manager Frank Rijkaard between 2003 and 2006. He arrived from Dutch club NAC Breda where he was head coach. Three years later, Ten Cate left Barcelona to become the manager of Ajax Amsterdam. With Barcelona, Ten Cate won two consecutive Spanish league titles in 2005 and 2006, one Spanish super cup in 2005 and one Champions League in 2006.

Oleguer is on Panathinaikos list

Catalan sports paper Sport claims that Barcelona centre and right back defender Oleguer Presas (28) could leave this summer for Greek top club Panathinaikos.


Former Barcelona assistant coach Henk ten Cate could have reached an agreement with the Greek club to become the new Panathinaikos manager as of next season. During the negotiations he would have put the name of Oleguer forward as a possible reinforcement for the team.

Panthinaikos could be preparing a two million euro° bid for Oleguer. The Catalan defender, who has said he prefers to stay at Barcelona (read more here), will be offered an economically very interesting contract.

New Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola is counting on the player and wants to keep him in the squad. But if the offer will become more concrete, it will be looked at by the technical staff.
