Genoa interested in Milito

Italian sports paper La Gazzetta dello Sport claims that Genoa is interested in Barcelona central defender Gabriel Milito (29) (read more here).

The Italian club would have asked Barcelona more information about the Argentinian centre-back and reportedly wants to pick up the injured player for cheap hoping on a quick recovery, like happened with former Barcelona player Thiago Motta last season.

Italian newspaper La Repubblica meanwhile claims that Genoa saw Milito as a back-up option in case the transfer of Lecce player Esposito wouldn't go through.

Genoa interested in Milito

German football site 4-4-2 claims that Italian club Genoa is interested in Barcelona central defender and Argentinian international Gabriel Milito (28).

Genoa is currently fifth in the Seria A, one point behind Fiorentina, and Genoa president Enrico Preziosi would be willing to invest seriously if the club can reach the Champions League this year.

Milito would in that case be among the top priorities of Genoa and his brother and Genoa forward Diego would have convinced him to join the Italians.

Barcelona would nevertheless at this moment be asking 20 million euro° for the Argentinian centre back defender, which is too much for Genoa. The Italian team only plans to make a bid if that asking price seriously drops in the coming months.

Ex-Barça: Motta to Genoa

On Wednesday, former Barcelona player Thiago Motta (26) has been officially presented as new player of Italian club Genoa.

Since he couldn't find a renewal agreement with Atlético Madrid this summer, Motta was available on a free transfer. The Italo-Brazilian has apparently signed a four-year contract with his new club.

Thiago Motta came through the Barcelona youth ranks and joined the first team during the 2001-2002 season. In the summer of 2007, the defensive midfielder left for Atlético Madrid.

With Barcelona, Motta won two Spanish leagues in 2005 and 2006, two Spanish super cups in 2005 and 2006 and one Champions League in 2006.

Diego Milito was again sounded out this summer

Spanish football weekly paper Don Balón claims that, like last year, Barcelona this summer sounded out Zaragoza on the transfer Genoa forward Diego Milito (29).

Because Barcelona forward Samuel Eto'o in the end stayed with the club, a possible deal transfer of the Argentinian striker was cancelled.

Milito, the older brother of Barcelona central defender Gabriel, moved at the end of August to Italian club Genoa for a transfer fee of 10 million euro° (plus 3 million euro variables). Milito signed a three-year contract with his former club.
