Barcelona has today officially announced the transfer of UD Las Palmas central defender Iván Alejandro Benítez (21), who will play with Barcelona Atlètic in the third division next season.
Iván, who passed the medical tests earlier today, signed a one-year deal. The Spanish defender, who came through the youth ranks of Las Palmas and has been playing for the club's B-team in the Spanish third division for the past few years, already made his debut with Las Palmas' first team in the Spanish second division.
Iván is, after winger Edu Oriol, midfielder Luque and central defender Armando, the fourth signing of Barcelona Atlètic this summer.

Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that Barcelona is interested in Las Palmas B central defender Iván Alejandro Benítez (21).
Barcelona would have been holding talks with the player's agency, Bahía Internacional, for a week. A deal would now be very close and a transfer could be agreed upon in the coming hours.
Iván Benítez, who has already made his debut with Las Palmas' first team in the Spanish second division, could that way become the third transfer of Barcelona Atlètic, after Edu Oriol and Luque.

Barça B: Saul Berjon (Las Palmas)
Madrid sports tabloid As claims that Barcelona is interested in Las Palmas forward Saúl Berjón Pérez (23).
Luisber, the agent of Saúl, whose contract with Las Palmas expires in 2011, would have informed the second division club that the player wants to leave this summer and hopes to get soon the permission of the club to leave. Las Palmas is said to be willing to let Saúl go.
Barcelona, who reportedly already wanted to sign Saúl for the B-team back in December, would still be interested in the striker. Barcelona youth academy director Alexanko would be in constant contact with the player's agent and the striker is keeping the Barcelona Atlètic option open.

Youth: Barcelona signs Las Palmas talent Alejandro
Spanish football site Airfútbol claims that Barcelona has signed Las Palmas Cadete B attacking midfielder Alejandro Rodríguez (born in 1994).
Alejandro has travelled to Barcelona with his parents and his agent Abián Moreno to see the installations of the club. In August, he'll return to Barcelona to close the four-year deal. Real Madrid was also interested in the player.
