Decision on Henrique's future next month

Asked what will happen when his one year loan deal ends, Bayer Leverkusen central defender and Barcelona loan out Henrique (22) has said in an interview with Catalan radio station Catalunya Ràdio that Barcelona will make a decision on his future in the coming weeks:

"My agent is constantly in contact with Barcelona and I know now that they will tell me next month if I will continue to play on loan or if I will return to the Camp Nou next season.

If they call me back, I see myself capable of playing at Barça. I have learnt a lot playing with Bayer Leverkusen and although the start was a bit hard I can say now that I have adapted to European football. I can't wait to put on the Barça shirt. I'm closely following the team on television and the truth is that it's great to see them play. If they continue like this, they will sure win some trophy."

I really can't understand why we bought him. Sure he's a talented player but we got Cacéres and Pique in the same age, aswell as Rafa, Puyi and Milito whom all have like 3-4 years left in top football. I just can't understand why we bought 3 young central defenders in the same summer, and the two south americans wasn't cheap (plus they are both far away from the line up).

Milito has 3 or 4 years left in him? After that injury, he'll have a really hard time of getting back to his best.
I for one, would pick a talented young defender over a 28 year old with legs made of glass, any day of the week.

Can he play at left back? Cause between him and caceres i hope one of them will be able to step in and play that role when sylvinho leaves otherwise we are just threw away money. Maybe they didnt expect marquez to stay. Because if you take out marquez that leaves puyol pique caceres and a crocked milito. hence the idea in getting a younger replacement in henrique

barca4life: yes he can play left back and right back as he is plays with both feet (like Kaka). His versatility makes him an ideal player to have. I think Barca will decide whether or not to call him back when they see how milito is doing, because then we can get a pretty clear idea of what our defense looks like.

Henrique can Play on the center as well a the right and left side he can also play defensive midfilder... He is a good play, i have been following his games with Leverkusen. Caceres can play LB, RB, and CB... Pique can play RB and CB... they are great players for the future... so don't know why anonymous is complaining about..

How many games have you seen Henrique and Cacéres on the flanks? Okey they CAN play on the right or the left but for me they are CB's right now. Why I complain? I really can't understand why we bought a CB for like 10m euro that we didn't need now (therefore he's on loan) and shouldn't need tomorrow (cause we bought two other CB in the same age) when we are short on the RB (ok Puyi is good there but is needed in the center). But the thing thats annoys me the most is the thing about the cantera, why should a young catalan CB stay in Barcelona? It won't be easy to compete with overpriced players like Cacéres.

@Anonymous, do you just rant or do you read what other people write as well?

I can understand why we bought 3 young center backs in the same summer. Puyol's getting older, Milito's been out for a year and who knows if he'll ever play at a high level again, Marquez was half way out the door until Pep decided he wanted Marquez. Pique was a cheap gamble, Caceres was probably the only one we expected to compliment Puyol on a regular basis. He's probably the reason why we gave up on Garay instead. Thus we bought Henrique too because of things didn't work out in the worst case scenario, if Caceres and Pique was a bust, Milito's career was done, Marquez sold, we could have another promising talent who could step in.

How can you complain though, things have worked better than we all could have imagined. Puyol is still going strong, Marquez has found his best form, Pique has been useful, Milito may recover after all, Caceres is the only one who hasn't had much of a chance. But our defense has been play as well as it has for years, and whoever we decide to sell we'll make some decent money back. There's no arguing that Henrique and Pique's stock have gone way up since we signed them. As for the cantera, when's the last time we produced a CB at the cantera? Puyol? Pique left even without much competition, I mean even Oleguer made our first team. Face it, the catera stresses technique and passing, not aggression and physicality, it's not surprising that we don't produce as many CBs.

Pique, Caceres and Henrique are all useful. They are also the future. We will need all three players even if we have Milito, Marquez and Puyol. All three are almost past their primes and getting old quickly, so the other three are natural successors. Plus, Henrique and Caceres are versatile. Both can play anywhere on the back line while Henrique can also play as a DM, just like Marquez which makes him a good cover in the DM position.
Plus, Marquez should stay another season or two after the current season expires and then he should go to Miami and be the face of our franchise together with Henry.
Caceres, Pique and Henrique have great potential and I think we shouldn't sell any of these players.
