Ronaldinho's transfer fee reinvested in Adebayor

Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that the money Barcelona will receive from the transfer of Ronaldinho will be directly invested in the transfer of Arsenal forward and Togo international Emmanuel Adebayor (24).

The striker is still the favourite of manager Josep Guardiola to occupy the centre forward position and despite the better financial offer of Milan, Adebayor prefers to join Barcelona. Arsenal would have droped their asking to 30 million euro°.

Catalan sports paper Sport claims that Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger doesn't seem willing to accept the "Eto'o + 10 million euro" offer (read more here). The Frenchman considers the cash part to be not enough and has certain doubts on Eto'o.

British tabloid The Sunday Mirror meanwhile claims that Arsenal has not received a single firm offer for Adebayor this summer. Milan has pulled out of the race and after making a tentative enquiry five weeks ago Barcelona didn't come back with a concrete bid.

With no club willing to pay the transfer fee, there is at this moment a real possibility that Adebayor will be at Arsenal next season. The player now faces the prospect of starting next season in an Arsenal shirt and having to win over the fans who have been angered by his lack of loyalty.

Plzz dont go for ADE!!! Eto'o is better twice than ADE! Sign Palacio or someone to be back up but not ADE!! Forza Barca !!

3OM euro is still a lot of money, but that sounds more reasonable that what was arsenal asking.he wants to leave (or getting 4times bigger salary) and either way they will make astonishing profit on him (like 700% or so),so they should leave him go where his hypocracy will lead him.if ronaldinho is sold to manchester then it could be virtually exchange ronaldinho for ade.considering ronaldinho´s poor form, lack of fitness and motivation,i would go for ade at once, the player who has similar stats (goals/shots)as f.torres according to one fan here on the blog.he wastes chances, but he deffinitaly can score 30+ goals a season for us,he´s still young, can improve and we desperately need somebody tall, good at heading up front..

btw i dont know about the hleb´s case anything new,but i dont really like the guy.maybe excellent tallent as hernandes would we better signing.and sign neves (even though i dont know much about him,but the talent and his price seems really tempting)

so ade, neves (silva?), hernandes(hleb?) and the squad will be complet and veery competetive:)

if we need a big strong striker
y not mario gomez
sure he had an awful euro 2008
but hes still a quality striker
he'd be cheaper than adebayor
hes younger and he wants to move to Barcelona

Don't even mention Mario Gomes in the same breath as Adebayor, Gomes is TERRIBLE. You want to know why he is cheaper? Because he is no good, I would rather have Benzema than Gomes.

yeha but benzema is impossible
adebayor misses too many chances for me
id way prefer berbatov or for eto'o to stay

i prefer that etoo is stay but if ade came to barca etoo must go because then we will have 4 centre forwrd...henry etoo adebayor and bojan krkić...etoo stay...

I wouldn't put too much faith in press reports. Spanish media will say that Adebayor prefers Barca, Italian media will say that he prefers Milan. It's hard to believe that Milan will have the money to sign both he and Ronaldinho, so if they sign Ronaldinho, we will certainly have a better chance.

But Guardiola has also said in a press conference that Henry will be his "9." So make of that what you will.

I think that right now we're begging and pleading with R10 to take the Citeh offer. Then 30 of the 32 million they want to pay us can go to Adebayor, with the rest on upgrading the team jet or something.

Eto'o is dragging his heels on vacation in the U.S., in the hopes that his inaction will mean he stays put. Doubtful. But we haven't gotten any serious offers for him, either.

dont know exactly what guardiola is planning, but to me it seems that the starting 11 could see like this:
________henry___adebayor
silva________________________messi
(iniesta) (iniesta)
_____iniesta(xavi)_____yaya(keita)

abidal__puyol__caceres______alves

___________valdes

btw valdes should get some real competition (no offence, but jorquera and pinto are third tier goalkeepers..)

i understand pep wants a big no 9, but i thought, and hoped, that benzema was staying with lyon next season but then was willing to leave. he fits all the requirements and will cost a fair whack, so i don't see the point in spending so much on ade if we are still interested in getting benzema who is much better, or will be. why not buy pavyuchenko now a wait for benzema.

i'm wondering at this point how much we really need a central striker, since signing one has become this problematic. Guardiola has already stated his desire to play Henry in the center, his natural position that he inexplicably wasn't allowed to play last season.

i see Kxevin's point about needing a big strong striker for Champion's League play, particularly against English opposition; but who knows more about scoring against English teams than Thierry Henry? remember that he didn't PLAY much of the semifinals last season against United.

i see our need for a left winger, and maybe a backup center-type forward, but is there really a place in the squad for a big expensive central striker? do we really want to sit Iniesta or Hleb or Keita most of the time? or do we sit Henry (and Eto'o, if he's still here)?

at the back we're fine. 3 of the up-field players have spots that are sacred: Messi, Xavi, and Toure Yaya. for the other 3 spots you have Henry, Bojan, Iniesta, Hleb, Keita, Eto'o if he stays and whatever breakouts we get from Barça B. correct me if i'm off here, but i just don't see room for a left winger AND a central striker.

I think you're spot on, ba. It's why I can't see Silva and Adebayor coming to fruition. It's an either/or.

I'm a little surprised that no one's brought up the option of holding onto Eto'o for one more year and then revisiting the option of getting Benzema from Lyon. Of course such an option would pose as a HUGE risk for Barcelona, but sometimes you have to take such in order to get the greater reward. The risks being twofold of course:

1.) That even if Eto'o has a "world class" season at the Nou Camp, with only a year left on his contract his value would at least be cut in half of what it is now. So if he's worth 30mil now, he could very well be worth only 15mil next year.

2.) Just as important is that there absolutely no guarantee that Aulas will agree to sell Benzema next season either - and even if he is open to suggestion that doesn't mean that Barcelona would have "first option" on him.

It would be like Laporta going "all in" with all his chips holding a 7-2 in his hands. The chances of him coming out winning the pot (Benzema)would seem very slim, but it's still a chance nontheless. And at this stage does Laporta really have anything to lose? He knows he's going to be out in two years, and if he makes this move next year, if it turns out to completely blow up in his face he will be out the door in a year's time anyways. And if he happens to pull it off he'll come out looking like a genius.

Guardiola says that henry will play as a center forward, than what the hell we need ADE?!!I mean does ADE plays in the same positions as Henry??

I think that if Adebayor came, Henry would play just off Adebayor, as the tandem did at Arsenal. Which REALLY makes the Silva question moot.

Cojonudo, you like to live dangerously, don't you? First off, Laporta won't survive the September delegates' meeting. Hence the rush to take care of all family business.

Also, you're right about the cut-rate Eto'o. As much as people would enjoy a productive Eto'o (and he would be) they would not enjoy what we'd have to sell him for in the last year of his contract. That risk is only worth taking if he'll take a one-year extension, but why would he? If he really wants out, a real transfer fee just makes him harder to sell.

Benzema is two years away from being ready for prime-time. By then, he will be so expensive that people will be saying that his price (probably north of 40 million) is craaaazy!

I also thing that we only need neves (23) 10-12 MILLION or hernandes (23) 20 MILLION (neves i prefer) and buy and loan out henrigue(21) 8+2 MILLION .. or even arhsavin (27) 18-20 million (older but barca fan)..
We do not need strikers.. if eto'o stays.. not even if he goes.. maybe paulyshenco.. for a different tactik..
