Eto'o could stay

Catalan sports paper Sport claims that Barcelona forward and Cameroon international Samuel Eto'o (27) could stay at the club if Arsenal doesn't accept Barcelona's final offer for Arsenal centre forward Adebayor (read more here).

Barcelona thinks that they have now negotiated long enough for Adebayor and won't make any new proposal if the last bid is also rejected by the English Premier League club.

Because the Barcelona technical staff thinks that there are no other valid candidates available on the market, that would mean that Eto'o will not leave Barcelona this summer. The coaches are convinced that they could bring Eto'o back to his best level.

Eto'o, whose contract with Barcelona expires in 2010, would also only be willing to leave for a club who offers him a better contract.

Good news!

Please god, make it happen.

Maybe Wenger would agree, but then, Samuel rejected other clubs because of their wage-offers. I'm not sure if Wenger would pay Eto'o what he wants.

I'm really starting to wonder if Eto'o is Wenger's "type" of player to begin with? Wenger's not the type to just plug anybody in to fill a hole he has on the club. He's shown to be pretty particular in his tastes - usually someone who hasn't quite reached puberty. Which could make Eto'o,(27) seem like (57) in Wenger's eyes.

Hell yeah!

I would open a bottle of champagne if this would come true!

if this is true how is etoo gonna react knowing that the only reason we kept him is because we didnt get ade? it will either make him knuckle down and get back too his best, which would be great, or, he'll be a sulky git for the whole season and mess up the dressing room and go for pittance next summer. its a gamble.

Oh, great. We go out again in the semi-finals against a Premiership side. Can't wait.

I don't understand why we can't do a deal. It's clear that Eto'o doesn't have what it takes, absent an on-form Ronaldinho, to help get us to that next level. And apologies to all you Eto'o devotees, but it's true. This is why Guardiola has the interest in a different central striker. He watched the same Champions League semi-final matches that we all watched.

If we keep Eto'o, we are doomed to the same fate unless something happens in January, and probably doomed to selling him cheap next year, in the last season of his contract. I just can't believe that anyone would think this is good news for the club.

Eto'o is good for La Liga, no question. But he isn't the best center forward in the world. The list of players I would rather see fronting our attack, if we are to get it done in Champions League, is hefty. I'd even take a chance on Pavlyuchenko, because we have to get some size on the front line to defeat box-packing Premiership sides.
