Catalan sports paper Sport claims that Barcelona will soon make a final offer for Arsenal forward and Togo international Emmanuel Adebayor (24).
The bid would include 10 million euro° plus Barcelona forward and Cameroon international Samuel Eto'o (27), which would together be the 40 million euro° that Arsenal is asking for their striker. If needed, Barcelona would even be ready to offer some more cash.
Although AC Milan is also interested in Adebayor, Barcelona would be the favourites to sign the player both because of financial reasons and because of the will of the player. Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola would want to close the deal as soon as possible, so Adebayor can play in the matches Barcelona will have to play next month to qualify for the Champions League.
Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo meanwhile claims that Arsenal has dropped the asking price to 30 million euro°.

I hope this is not true ...
Someone has lost his mind!! 10m + ETo'o for ADE??? This is nightmare!!
They get more stupid as days goes by if this is true. Hopefully this is just Sport not having anything else to write about on a Sunday.
can the other 9 board members retire as well and we start getting some reasonable people? this organization is full of 'turds.
My lord, save Barca.. Their board is going CRAZY!!!
OHHHH My God, this cant be true. Eto is worth: Adebayor and hleb both. In my opinion this article is joke. Maybe next offer will be Lionel Messi+10 million euros fabregas.
THIS IS MADNESS???
NO..THIS IS BARCA!!!
quote: the board
Maybe I am being more hopeful than than analytical, but this just can't be right. Aside from being bad business, how would it work if Eto'o doesn't want to go to Arsenal? Given that he is reluctant to go to a club that can't pay his 150K euros a week and that Arsenal would never pay this to anyone, I can't see how he would ever sign.
This is actually why I think Eto'o will now stay. He's got a contract until 2010 with a salary that no one other than Chelsea or Madrid can match. Chelsea now look set to keep Drogba. Eto'o is proud and thinks he can prove Pep wrong, why would he leave for a lower salary?
This is ridicuolus! Eto'o is at least twice as good as Ade will ever be, therefor he should be worth, at least, twice as much as Adebayor.
I hope this is just news paper BULLSHIT because if its true its MADNESS Eto'o + 10 million For Adebayour!!!! Please say it ain't so even if Eto'o ends up leaving and we do get Adebayour. Eto'o cant go for a Penny less than 35 million and adebayour is worth a penny over 25 million and if it were up to me I wouldn't buy him at all. I hope to GOD that Eto'o refuses all offers and stays at the club and prove to the club management and the world that he is the BEST striker in the world
I am for eto'o leaving.. and I know that this is just a crap rumor but....jesus christ.. a straight ip swap if anything but eto'o AND MONEY ??!!! ... we're that desperate ?
Just think about it for a second, presuming that the rumor is true:
1. This shows how badly we want Eto'o gone.
2. Adebayor's upside is still to be realized. Eto'o is on the down slope.
3. Major injuries the past two seasons have hampered Eto'o's effectiveness. Is the writing on the wall?
4. If we are going to move him, we HAVE to move him this year.
5. We have overvalued Eto'o at 40 million. Everyone knows that, which is why he hasn't moved. Two years ago he would have flown out the door at that same price.
6. Adebayor is younger and hence more durable.
7. If Adebayor, who has proven he can score against Premiership opposition, gets us past Premiership sides in the Champions League, it will be worth it.
Now, these things are all what the board is probably thinking. And frankly, fondness for Eto'o aside, they all make perfect sense.
Eto'o at present is probably worth about 30 million, which is a number that anyone who's serious about a deal will start with. We've priced him at 40 million to make it clear that we'll probably settle for somewhere around 30.
And you know what? No takers. And he's been on the market for months. Which tells us what? Does everyone know something that we fans don't? Hard to say.
Sport isn't all that reliable, and there are the reports out of Italy, that Milan has worked a cut-rate deal for Adebayor, who prefers Milan to Barcelona.
So let's just wait and see what happens.
pep ! Today is weekend ! why still no offical news of hleb ! it make me nervous !
"Kxevin" I understand all of your points, some I agree with more than others. I would have been more able to stomach a straight swap of the strikers. If Eto'o was say, 30 or older I could understand having to add the extra cash because of the limited amount of years he would have left being able to play at an elite level. But he is still only 27 and the age difference between him and Adebayor is not significant - not significant enough to add 10mil on top of it just because "you are desperate to offload him".
To your point about Eto'o having an overinflated initial price tag of 40mil. I don't see anything wrong with that if Valencia and Arsenal are able to do the same respectively with Villa and Adebayor. So if in fact Eto'o's "true" value lies around 30mil then the same should be said of Adebayor if not less! You cannot convince me that Adebayor is worth 30-40mil either. The difference is that Barcelona are desperate to get him, (and have already made that well known - thus weaking their barganing position) while there are seemingly no takers for Eto'o (at his current asking price.) That shouldn't be meant to imply that Adebayor is a better player than Eto'o. What it implies is that Barcelona will stop at nothing to get Adebayor, at any price! Milan and Arsenal cannot take the same approach with Eto'o - not because they don't wan't him, but because unlike Barcelona they can't go into negotiations with a blank cheque book in their hands.
Just one thing I really hope that the board have a firm "physical" reasons (besides well known personal and political ones) behind their desperate push for selling Eto.
one more thing.. remember what Arsen winger has said about Etoo's physical status??
anyway there are many questions that only time will answer.
You're absolutely right, Cojonudo. We are desperate. We simply cannot have another trophyless season, so Laporta and the board are pulling out all the stops. Where we are concerned, it's a seller's market. Arsenal knows that we need what Adebayor has, so they're willing to hold him hostage.
Valencia has priced Villa and Silva in a way that will either make them stay put, or get them a lot of money from a side serious about buying them. But Valencia have just changed everything around, and they don't have the board turmoil and international profile that Barca have.
Yes, desperate times call for desperate measures, even if (they believe) that means overpaying.
And look, if we come up against Man U in next season's semis, and an Adebayor goal or two gets us through, will people remember that we overpaid for him, or will be they be exulting in the prospect of a European trophy? We both know what the answer to that one is.
Unfortunately, Eto'o is damaged goods in the market right now. If he were the Eto'o he was, he'd be a steal at 30 million, and teams would be racing to sign him before we came to our senses. But that just isn't the case.
I don't blame people for their Eto'o love. Hell, I love Eto'o for what he's done for the side. But I have to tell you....Fox Soccer had the Arsenal v Newcastle FA Cup 4th round game as their game of the week last night, and Adebayor nailed two dazzling goals, both of which he created space for himself, and calmly finished very difficult shots. And I got to thinking "Man, would he look good in the colors." I still think he prefers Milan. Who wants to come into such a pressure-packed environment as ours right now?
I really hope this is NOT true.
I always wondered why Barca or Real never took a chance on Torres.
Hes spanish played in la liga, tall, storng, fast, good in the air but most importantly likes to play as a lone frontman or a target-man which is a rare thing today. Even the current European Champions dont play with a traditional number 9 so they must be a commodity.
cojonudo I agree with you whole heartedly I couldn't have said it better myself
I agree whole-heartedly with Kxevin. Word for word.
kxevin what if Ade turns out to be a flop can you imagine the riots outside the camp nou the amount of pressure for change and I guarantee you the Barcelona faithful won't give the team a chance until the end of the season they'll demand results instantly I've been following Arsenal for the past two years and for every goal Ade scores he misses tenand that is in a team where he has gelled with his team mates and has played there for a while in the 2006-2007 saying he was crap would of been a compliment. I'm not saying Adebayour is useless simply that he's over hyped I would have much rather of had Dani Guiza over him someone who is proven in La Liga
F...... unbelievable.
Everybody now laughs at us.
I just dont have appropriate words for this s...
You're right Hamad, there is a risk that he might flop. But that's a risk with almost any signing you can think of, frankly.
Adebayor has almost the same goals to shots percentage as the likes of C. Ronaldo and Fernando Torres. People would be popping champagne if we got Torres, right?
Every striker misses shots. The problem with a Liga-proven striker such as Guiza is that we don't know how he'll be against Champions League opposition. Liga is winnable with just a different coach, frankly. Fire Rijkaard, bring in a new coach and physios, and off you go.
The depth and quality that we have brought in makes it clear that we're after European glory, as we should be. For that, risk is necessary.
Kxevin, You have a point but, I think you are over simplifying the case I don't think that Eto'o was it fault due to our lack of goals against the like of Man U it was a combo of things the fact that all of Europe knew that to stop Barca all you need to do is pack the back line and Barcelona were not as fast as they were in the glorious 2005/2006 season the team as awhole dropped the tempo and were not as confident as they once were I remember in the 06 season if Barca were a goal down I wouldn't worry because they were confident and would eventualy turn the table, I remember seeing the opposing teams defence with a look of horror on their face hoping that they can just save them selves from being thrashed and try to lose with dignity in that glorious season Barcelona were the best team bar none The like of Eto'o Ronaldinho and Deco were the best in their positions. Therefore I can't stomach trading Eto'o plus cash for Adebayour, I can live with the fact that Eto'o will leave and Ade will come. I'll try to be optimistic and hope that Adebayour becomes a team player and helps the team. on the bright side he's as fast as hell and I like how he doesn't shy away from central defenders lets hope Pep works on his finishing it's also comforting that Barca have Henry and Bojan as other striking options and let's hope with the new phisyo's Barca won't have an injury crisis like in seasons passed. the way I see it Barca need to get rid of Gudjohnson and don't need a replacement I think recentley promoted Victor Vasquez can fill the tiny hole left by Eidur. Also since Ronaldinho is as good as gone I think Barca should go for Thiago Mendes I haven't seen him play and I ussualy reserve my opinion for people I've seen in action. But his age price and alleged potential make a temting buy add to that that both Inesta and Hleb can fill the hole left by Dinho so esentialy will be a squad player that will improve with the team. And obviously Ade will hopefully be able to fill the massive hole left by Eto'o
