Drogba wants to move to Barcelona

Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that Chelsea forward and Ivory Coast international Didier Drogba (30) would really like to join Barcelona this summer.

Drogba wants to start a new and last football adventure and thinks that the new project at Barcelona, where he would team up with his compatriot and close friend Yaya Touré, would be the ideal opportunity to do that.

Certainly with Inter manager and former Chelsea coach José Mourinho apparently holding on to Ibrahimovich and not going after Drogba, Barcelona is without any doubt the preferred destination of the Ivorian striker.

New Chelsea manager Luiz Felipe Scolari nevertheless made clear that he's counting on Drogba, which has caused the English club to offer the striker a renewal. Drogba is looking at the proposal but hopes at the same time that Barcelona will start to push hard for him in the coming days.

The offer of a swap deal including Drogba and Eto'o, that was made by then Barcelona sports vice president Marc Ingla but was rejected by Chelsea a few weeks ago (read more here), could again be put on the table and would be the fastest way to a transfer.

Thierry Seydi, Drogba's agent said on Tuesday in an interview with French football weekly paper France Football that Drogba will take a decision before next weekend: "Didier has given himself ten days to make a decision. If nothing has happened by that time, he'll stay with Chelsea and renew his contract with two more years."

British tabloid The Daily Star claims that Chelsea would be willing to let Drogba go for 25 million euro° but that it looks as if negotiations will drag on, both between Drogba and Barcelona and between Chelsea and Barcelona.

he's a good player and would fit the no 9 well, i just don't like the diving and bitchiness. i'd probably prefer ade to this as he is younger, although getting drogba now for a year till we can get bnzema, or try and get, then sell drogba for a bit of cash

we can sign him if his asking prise is not too high and the option of eto'o nplus cash is not a good idea,i thouht he should be use in a swap deal,i mean and exchange.but eto'o can stay

I would swap him for Eto'o but I think Barcelona would be foolish to add cash in the deal. If anything it should be Chelsea the one's sending us the extra cash instead, considering Drobga is 3yrs. older than Eto'o, and technically speaking Eto'o is the better "all-around" player.

The main holdup seems to be that Drogba's looking to ink a three year deal while Barcelona are only rumored to be offering a two year deal with an option for a third. Besides his age I can see why Barcelona would be hesitant to guarantee the third year in the contract. Pep's also working on a two year deal and should he somehow fail miserably Barcelona don't want to be holding onto Drogba a year after the manager that brought him to the club is gone.

I'm with Cojonudo. This would be good, but no way in hell would I give him 3 years. A lot is going to happen in the striker market in 3 years, and by then Drogba will be difficult to sell, and a pain in the ass if he's coming in as a sub.

He would destroy La Liga. If he destroys the Premiership, with its bigger, stronger, more aggressive defenders, I can only imagine the damage he'd do as part of our front line. He has a very good shot from distance, too. And most importantly, he's a producer in Champions League.

Personally, I would be happier to see Dimitar Berbatov in Barca's shirt but neither is Drogba bad option. Quite contrary, we could very well use his height and strength in attack and his age is not a problem. I consider it as an advantage because - 1. Experience - he scored goals against most powerful defenders in Europe and, more important, EPL; - 2. He wouldn't jeopardize the young players development (Gai, Bojan...); - 3. Since he is a late bloomer, he still has room for improvement and he can maintain his top form another 3 years; - 4. His arrival (at least in my opinion) wouldn't exclude signing Benzema next year.

i'd prefer Berbatov as well, despite Drogba's obvious strength leading the line. Berbatov has better technique, a better attitude and has the emotional capacity to sit on the bench a few times. that and we could probably still sell him in a year or 2 for about what we bought him for.

though this is all predicated upon the idea that we need a big central striker, which i don't think we do.

Boys, calm down... Scolari already said that he wants him at Stamford Bridge next year and Abramovich is preparing better salary for him. I don't see why are you so keen to see him in Barca's shirt. Too old. Just look at Henry. He's so far away like he used to be.
Berbatov-lazy Balkan boy!

For me, its an age thing, I want to watch Barcelona excel knowing that the same team will be able to replicate the highs for a good 3/4 years and evolve further, I think Drogba short term is the best of the bunch, but likewise I'd rather see Adebayor (on a results level) and Berbatov (for purist football reasons) ahead in the pecking order, in an ideal world for me, Berbatov and Arshavin would be great realistic coups.
