Tough and expensive Villa race coming up

Catalan sports paper Sport claims that Barcelona will enter the race for Valencia forward and Spanish international David Villa (26) and will have to compete with clubs like Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham and Real Madrid (read more here).

With the transfers of Lyon forward Karim Benzema and Inter Milan forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic looking very difficult and with the club expecting to receive high transfer fees for Ronaldinho and Eto'o, Barcelona could have turned its attention to the expensive Spanish striker.

Villa, who took breakfast yesterday with his father and his agent, is aware of the interest and will take his time to make a decision about his future. The player said at a press conference that he's now fully concentrating on the European championship.

Asked about the rumours linking the players with Barcelona, Villa's agent José Luis Tamargo didn't want to enter the issue during an interview with Catalan radio station Ona FM: "I don't want to talk about the future. We've decided not to comment on who has called us or who is interested until the end of the Euro. David and I are now totally focusing on the national team. If one day something has to happen, it will happen and that's it."

Valencia sports director Juan Sánchez said to journalists that the club is waiting what's going to happen: "At this moment Villa is a Valencia player and nothing more. He's a great player, so the longer he can stay with us, the better. If some offer arrives in the future, we'll look at it then. We're not yet thinking about a transfer fee."

Catalan sport paper Sport claims that Valencia will ask 40 million euro° for Villa. Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that the price was at least 25 million euro° for before the start of the European championship and that the price is been going up after the player's hattrick against Russia.

Barca will be priced out of a move by the end of Euro.

Keep Ronnie and Eto'o because we're obviously not gonna do a good job at negotiating players of villas price and standard, barca seems to only want people that they can settle for...they'll eventually not sign villa and end up buyin a striker from the MLS hahahahahahhahahaha that was a good one

IMO Villa is a great player but not a great fit at Barcelona.

He is too small and we need someone strong in the air since Guardiola is looking to play with 2 rraditional wing players...also with the race, the price will be way too high. he is not worth anything more than 25-30.

just my $ 0.02

If Eto leave, Barca definitly should find replacement...And Villa is obvious choice.Attack of Henry&Villa ( if Pep plays 4-4-2, but I think he wont) is much better than Henry + Gomez/Huntelaar/Guiza/Trezeguet ( realistic targets)

I don't see Barcelona coming out ahead in a bidding war for Villa. A 35-40mil estimate is far too much. I forsee Villa at Chelsea next season. I'm surprised there's been no mention of Podolski? Sure, he's lighting it up at the Euro's but he had a tumultuous season at Bayern and perhaps he'd welcome a change of scenery? Plus I'm sure Barcelona could land him for a far cheaper price than Villa right now. Podolski's got a cannon for a leg and has proven he can score from distance, something I'm sure Barcelona's been looking for.

Ya Podolski is an excellent choice! maybe they'll look into it??? Would be nice

Guys Podolski sux. I live in Cologne, his former team. I have seen him a billion times (in person) and I have seen all of his games...

he can't even get off the bench in Munich. He is a backup at best.
