Catalan sports paper Sport claims that the Barcelona technical department is divided on the possible transfer of Zaragoza forward and Spanish international Sergio García (24) (read more here).
While Barcelona sports director Txiki Begiristain wouldn't be very convinced that bringing back the Barcelona youth product could be a good idea, new Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola thinks that Sergio García would be a great addition to the squad.
Sergio García has a buyout clause of 20 million euro° but Zaragoza would be willing to start talking for a transfer fee of around 12 million euro°. The player is delighted about the idea of returning to Barcelona.

I would like to give Guardiola the benefit of the doubt that he knows what he's doing in requesting Garcia's addition to the squad. But I think I might have to side with Txiki on this one. Sure, for 12mil Euro Garcia might be a nice choice and good value as a backup striker. But considering he's only 24, does he realy want to "stunt" his future development by riding the bench most of the time? If he's to improve his game he needs playing time and even if Eto'o or Henry leaves that still leaves Bojan as the backup central striker on the team. So where would Garcia get his minutes? As I mentioned in a previous post, unless Guardiola is considering converting him into a winger, or sees Garcia as a career role/bench player and nothing more then I question his desire to get him. Wouldn't it be in Garcia's best interests to go to a club (albeit lower level) with the prospect of getting quality minutes over joining a top side in Barca where minutes are going to be scant and sparse? I could understand the move if he was say, 30 and resigned in his back up role. But at 24, he still should have his best football ahead of him. I just hope that he get's the proper opportunity to shine wherever he ends up.
