Abidal wants to stay

Asked about the rumours linking him with a move to AS Roma (read more here), Barcelona left back defender and French international Eric Abidal (28) said at a press conference yesterday that he doesn't plan to leave Barcelona in the summer:

"I will stay with Barcelona. I have signed a contract for four years, so I have three left. The press says that Abidal will go to Italy. I think that won't be the case. I will stay."

I believe Abidal played fairly well last season he just seemed to run out of steam towards the end. Perhaps his fitness level wasn't were it should have been. I still think it remains to be seen who Barcelona plan to deploy at that left wing position because it's quite clear that Abidal and Henry didn't "link" well together. Of no fault to Henry either because he was playing out of position. Perhaps if we are lucky enough to get Silva Abidal's fortunes may change a bit. I don't believe you go from being considered one of the top 3 left backs in the world to garbage in one season. Barca should remain patient with him and hopefully with the addition of a "true" left winger he'll have more success this coming season.

Sylvihno pleased me more then Abbie did..Sylvihno's whip's into the 18 were sheer precision and perfection he worked well with Mr. Barca (ronaldihno) and almost always caused problems when launching an attack. Abidal was more sound in the defense dept. they both were sound players just more advance in opposite ranges of their position.
