Inter interested in Xavi

Catalan sports paper Sport claims that new Inter Milan manager José Mourinho would like to bring Barcelona midfielder and Spanish international Xavi Hernández (28) to Inter.

Mourinho would have put the name of Xavi forward during a meeting with Inter president Massimo Moratti earlier this week (read more here). Mourinho would even have personally contacted the entourage of the player to sound him out on a possible transfer, but a move doesn't seem to be an option for Xavi.

Despite that negative response, Inter could consider to keep on pushing for the Catalan midfielder, since Deco seems on his way to Chelsea and Lampard could be staying at the English club. Xavi would be valued at 40 million euro°.

The paper says that Mourinho already wanted to sign Xavi during his time with Chelsea but a personal meeting between the manager and the player didn't lead to a transfer because the player made clear he dreams about retiring at Barcelona (read more here).

Asked by the paper about the rumours, Xavi's agent Iván Corretja confirmed the interest of several clubs in the player but said that Xavi has no plans to leave Barcelona:

"Xavi is a player who is followed by a lot of clubs because he is playing very consistently on a high level. But the fact that we receive offers, doesn't mean that we will listen to them because he intends to stay with Barcelona. I didn't even inform him about the last proposals because with the Euro now is not the time to talk about these things. Xavi is very motivated to be part of the new project of Guardiola."

Xavi must STAY!!!...

Admire him so much as a footballer for being so loyal to the club...

anyways...

read an article earlier about Pep's opinion on Zambrotta and Barca having problems with full back (both left and right)... anyone heard of the player Marco Zoro who currently plays for Benfica?...

Anyways... XAVI MUST STAY FOR BARCA!!!

It'll be more easier for them to get Messi, than Xavi.

Xavi is the type of player who never leave.

ohh with the comment above not really suggesting Barca get another defender as there has been enough signings for Defenders (Caceres and Pique both also having the abilities to play as either Center/Full Backs)... But just wondering if anyone heard of the player?

Anyways... next signings that would be awesome...

David Silva
David Villa/Guiza
Joao Moutinho/Hernanes

Adding that I was talking about the right/left back situation in 2006.

Xavi's contract expires in 2010 (like most contracts), so this summer it should be renewed if the club wants him to stay.

To one of the comments above, Messi's buyout clause is 150mil Euros so NO I don't think he'll be easier to get than Xavi!

Barcelona will never let a player like Xavi go! He's in the same boat as Puyol. If Barcelona ever considered selling either of them the fans and the city would be in an uproar! It would be career suicide for Laporta to even think of such a thing! There's just certain players that "define" the team and that the fans embrace and Xavi's one of them.
