That's so weird, I just thought about that during the game against atleti. Busquets is great when it comes to making the opponents warned.

i love the guy ,but he is falling alot down.... intentionally and if he continues like this and referees start to know him it could turn bad for his careed.

The thing with Sergi is that he knows how to draw a foul, its a skill like any other and he does it very well. It does not however make him a diver, so i am not that worried about the referees catching on because there is not too much to catch on to. He might make a meal of the tackles he does get but that is a different story. More often than not when he is fouled it is genuine and it is because he knows how to position not only his body but the ball so that he draws the foul. Its just another tool we use to dictate play on the field.

Skanjos, my thoughts exactly. I'd hate to end up with a Drogba/early C.Ronaldo type player in Barca. But I'm sure this behavior would be nipped in the bud if it becomes too bad, after all, it's Barca...

how many times did we hit the post and the cross bar this season??? it's about once a game, isn't it?

Skanjos and Etsp,
i think you got it wrong wit Sergio... he is not a diver and he cannot be placed wit th likes of drogba and ronaldo who intentionally dive... Sergio knows how to draw a foul as correctly pointed out by Hilal... Sergio has a great balance and so, positions himself so well that the opponent can only foul him to win the ball from him... i don think any player in Barca will be encouraged to dive... even though Henry used to dive a lot in his career before joining Barca, i dont remember seeing him diving any time this year...

I think it is a combination of both.
Busquets knows how to protect the boll, witch leads to many fouls on him.
but there are times he falls simply too easy, as i see it.
It can confuse the reforey then.

Don't forget this is in 18 games only. The thing with Sergio is that he is so good at it even better than some of these veterans. He gets hit but the way he drops his body to the ground makes it look much worse. I find this different than Drogba and Ronaldo who fall down without any contact most of the time. Sergio is very useful to have on the field because of this in addition to his playing skill because if he has gotten people 17 cards in 18 games played, you know that at least every game someone is getting a card which later in the game can lead to them getting a red. It forces people to change their game and play less aggressive than they would normally played. I love the kid and I think this is a great skill of his.

Well said Jnice...he forces the opposition to play with less aggression. He will be very useful when we play against the EPL teams in the CL this year. He does overdo it sometimes with the rolling around but so do many other players in the modern game, at least he waits for a tackle before doing so, unlike some (see Guti). As gets older and gains more experience he will learn not to do this so much. The important thing is that he is another excellent player produced by our youth system who will be a tremendous asset for years to come.

Sashi, hilal, I totally agree, he positions himself and draws on fouls very well. But I've noticed he overdoes it sometimes, with the heavy falling and the rolling around on the pitch. But Sashi, I didn't place him with those divers, I just said I wouldn't want him to evolve in that direction. Which I, by the way, am sure he won't.

I'd be curious about that Messi number, as well. Both he and Busquets are slick with the ball, holding it that nanosecond longer to draw the foul. The upside is it gets fouls and yellows, the downside is it can shorten a player's career.

I do think that Busquets is excessively theatrical in that he makes a meal of a snack, but he isn't a diver in the Drogba/Ronaldo mold. No way, no how.

Curiously, however, Alves is the most theatrical of any Barca player in the foul-taking department. It's almost comical sometimes.

Etsp,
ya may be he over does it sometimes... and sorry if i said it wrong... we dont want such a good youngster to evolve in tat direction... soon, we hope pep will spot it and will advice him so that he would become a better professional in th coming years... and great work for the stats man... looking forward for more such stats... :)

Messi had "provoked" 10 cards (in the Liga alone) before the Villarreal game:

Kxevin,
tat was well said... Alves can fake some fouls and he showed it in some matches... hope he covers this aspect with his skill to deliver crosses match in and match out... and so far, he has lived up to his expectations... hope he continues...
