OFFICIAL: Sylvinho to Manchester City

Manchester City has today officially announced the transfer of former Barcelona left back defender Sylvinho (35).

Sylvinho has signed a one-year contract with the English Premier League club.

Barcelona had officially announced earlier this summer that the expiring contract of Sylvinho would not be renewed (read more here).

Speaking to the club's official media, Manchester City manager Mark Hughes said that he is delighted with the transfer: "Sylvinho has a wealth of experience at the very top level, having represented Brazil and played for some of the very top clubs in Europe. When the chance presented itself to bring him to Manchester City as a free agent I saw it as representing excellent business for us. Sylvinho won the European Cup last season at Barcelona and he will strengthen our defensive options."

why does city with all the money in the world sign sylvinho on a free, a smart move though, he showed last season that he still got what it takes

He was awesome in the CL final . I always prefered him over Abidal . It looks like Abidal will have to make way for Maxwell who is a much better overall player !!

Best of luck grandpa!

I've said it before and I'll say it again, we should have kept him for another season.
From what I understand, and I say this with only what I have heard/picked up, he had a crucial role in the dressing room. Ah well

Hope he rocks the Man C side!
