Barcelona will sign no midfielder this summer

Asked about the rumours linking Barcelona attacker and Iceland international Eidur Gudjohnsen (30) with a move to West Ham (read more here), Barcelona sports director Txiki Begiristain told journalists that the player might leave and that the club in that case will not sign a midfielder to replace him during the current summer transfer window:

"We are looking for an exit for him, so that he can continue to have playing time. But if he leaves for West Ham or any other club, we are not planning to sign anyone to replace him. We're not thinking about that."

At least get some money for him Txiki! It is just ridiculous that we always get such awful prices when we sell. Guddy has a good reputation in England, and we should be able to get some money for him, not pay money to get rid of him!

Yaya needs to play in a more offensive role, we are wasting him in the defensive midfield role! With Yaya, Keita, the midgets and Tiago/JDS there are alot of options in midfield. Only need a central defender so Pique and Marquez can play DM when needed. Our attack lacks some depth, but Bojan, Iniesta (on the wings) and Pedro are not disaster. I think we could have needed Keirrison though.

Yeah, once Guddy is gone, there's no reason to buy anyone with JDS & Thiago waiting in the wings

I don't understand why Barça always wants to loan out players... First Keirisson and Hleb, then Caceres, then Victor Sanchez, and now Guddy...

I read about a loan out for Jeffren to... We're wasting money. We should have received money for loaning them out...

Like Caceres is doing really great with Juventus... they will be able to buy him at the end of the season for 11 millions of euros... That means we lost 5 millions since we bought him 16 millions!

And now, they want to let guddy go to West Ham and still pay part of his salary. That really drives me crazy!!!

I'm scared we won't have enough depth to be competitive in la liga, la copa del rey and the CL!

Greeting from Belgium!

Well he said there will be no replacement for guddy. as far as we know that could mean we are not buying a center midfield but a winger. maybe that is why we have been related to more wingers than cm's.

This shows how useless he is. We won't notice his absence.

at the start of the last season he had some minutes but the longer the year went, the shorter his appearences were. this season i think its the best for both parties that he leave and get some playing minutes. he also knows the epl and will adapt quik. if he goes i wish him good luck with west ham, cause hes a good man
