French sports paper L'Equipe claims that Barcelona president Joan Laporta has talked with Olympique Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas about Olympique Lyon forward and French international Karim Benzema (21) during last week's official dinner previous to the Champions League game between the two clubs.
Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that Laporta just wanted to hear more about how things currently stand. Aulas told him that nothing has changed and that Barcelona is still in pole position in case Benzema would leave in the summer.
Aulas nevertheless suggested that, more than Real Madrid, Manchester United is working on the transfer of Benzema and could become Barcelona's main rival to sign the player. Laporta asked his French counterpart to be kept informed about every bid coming in for Benzema.
Barcelona sports director Txiki Begiristain would meanwhile be in constant contact with Benzema's agent. Both the player and his agent would have denied that Benzema is a Real Madrid fan saying that the he had been misquoted by Madrid media. The player would like to move to the Spanish league but has no real preference as the team is concerned.

probably wont be popular but i think last nights game has convinced me that aguero is a better option.
some reasons:
1. aguero spanking our tema last night still fresh in my mind, a so called 'midget' was even an aerial threat against us, which seems to be benzema's trump card together with physical strength.
2. aguero has adapted and begun to master the spansih league.
3. even if just madrid paper talk there still some doubt with benzema and madrid, no doubt aguero never play for them.
4. help keep messi happy
just some ideas. if i'm honest i'd be more than happy with either but would prefer aguero.
when i said aguero was a strong guy, people out here laughed with me!
he's so similar to romario. the only problem is that we have 3 small guys up front when we play with ribery/iniesta, aguero and messi
I too would prefer Aguero. Benzema has only ever proved himself in France really. As good as he looks it would still be a risk considering his price tag and salary demands. Aguero on the other hand has proved himself in the Spanish league and has done so against top teams. He is constantly scoring goals for a team that has been struggling all season. His movement on and off the ball is quite amazing, he ran circles aroung our defenders. Benzema did not have the same effect when he played against us. Plus he and Messi together would be something to behold. It would make both players happy because they are great friends and play together for Argentina. Happy players are good players.
I also think Agüero is the better option. Benzema is fine, but I think he is going to need a couple of years to get into the barca style. Which we cannot afford. Agüero on the other hand is a true Barca-prospect and has already proved himself in spanish football in my opinion. I would rather have Bojan then Benzema (refering to the ridiculous rumer of a swich between the two) and after yesterdays display I am even moore convinced of Agüeros qualitys. The little guy was first on every ball, even the ones in the air!
I know im dreaming but what about both? with aguero on the left wing have the two explosive midgets on the wings with benzema in the middle. now that would be interesting.
i prefer aguero to...
Get either Aguero or Benzema. At least they can finish one-on-one chances, unlike Samuel Eto'o or Gudgohnsen or whatever his name is. I love Eto'o but it seams that he has lost the ability to score the kind of goals that everyone else can score, he can only score tap-ins because he has good positioning. He isn't even that fast anymore! Kanoute is better on his day!
Without Eto'o we would already have lost this laague by now, so what are you talking about?! Keep your heads cool, we're still on top...
As first, that things about pole positions make me sick. Barca has pole position for Ribery, Benzema, Aguero, Silva...etc..
Most important, all of us should stop talking about possible transfers and show some confidence in this team. Transfers will come, sooner or later. It's half of the season and we are already dreaming about all these players. It's OK, but who'll pay all these "stars"?
This Barca team is still at the stage of rebuilding and Guardiola showed us how good coach he is and how good our team is. These few games without success will shake the team and they'll wake up and be back at the winning road.
In the end, I'd prefer Aguero over Benzema, definitely.
Eto'o lost his abilities? What are you anonymous talking about? He's the best striker in the Europe recently. I agree with Groga.
now everybody wants aguero...if benzema plays a fantasic game against us in 2 weeks time then they will want benzema..comon guys dont be a one game lover.and about eto, stop hatin him without his 23 goals i wonder were we would have been. messi`s last 3 games were horrorful and nobody said sh*t about him.
to put this all in a nut shell.
i still prefer benzema
- stronger (compete with defenders like: ferdinand, vidic, terry, carragher etc)
- taller (heading, crossing from alves)
I'm an eto'o fan. what he said was true, other guys are more talented but eto'o is more hungry. he didn't have a good day yesterday and indeed he isn't that fast anymore. but this guy can work and score. None of the mentioned names can what he does all those years!Even the seasons he was injuried for a large period he still scored over 15.
aguero isn't a one game man. Remeber last year on atletico's field? it's the second game he wins for atletico against us.
On the other hand, Aguero was invisible during the other games we played against them this season (league and cup), but then nobody said "you see? he's not good enough for us". Until he plays with us, then people would say it after one bad game. Tiring!
I agree with Wanted47 about Messi. Everyone was against me (and calling me anti-fan) when I claimed a few months ago that sometimes I don't like Messi's performances. I'm glad I'm not the only one. That's not anti-Messi propaganda, that's just an objective (realistic) view over his games. I don't blame him for anything. He's excellent and he'll be better and better every season. There's no-one in the current team which is to blame for this negative results. After all, Barca still have 4 precious points ahead.
i can't believe everyone wants aguero now. benzema is a much better option cause it took i think 4 weeks for aguero to score and it came against a poor defence. benzema is much better than aguero in the air and on the ground but if i had my choice eto'o and henry would be shown the door and we sign both of them and its safe to say eto'o really lacks in everything FINISHING -(23 goals out of what 70) he misses to much. CONTROL - i have never heard of the so called best striker in the world who can't control. PASSING every time i see eto'o drift to the wings or try to pass rather than go for goal i know barca isn't scoring anything he can't pass. ARIEL - no need to explain that as all barca players lack this ability. so it leaves eto'o to be only good at one thing POSTIONING - if it wasn't for his positioning he wouldn't have nicked in 23 goals. i just mentioned the things a world class striker should be good at their are other things but they aren;t necessary for eto'o.
i agree with wanted ,benzema is what we need now ,he showed he can be threat even against man utd or barca
"to put this all in a nut shell.

aguero is similar to messi, benzema can reach eto at his prime in 2-3 years.aguero cant cause he is a diferent kind of player(i actually changed my opinion this year,i wanted aguero but now i want benzema,i have been watching the french league and he is amazing)
Aguero all the way fellas...wait to you see him at his prime. Take it from me their is no gamble here...unlike Benzema switching from the French league to La Liga. My friends and I have been following Kun for quite some time, and is only getting better and better over the years. I have personaly seen Messi and Aguero in action this past summer when Mexico played Argentina and it was incredible.... Besides watching him play with Independiente, at 15, 16, and 17 years of age was convincing enough for me then that he would fit in well here at Barcelona. Not to mention how much he has stepped up his game since 2006 while at A.Madrid.
And with the likes of the rest of our superior talent we currently have on our roster, this would be a sight to see. I personally would rather watch Aguero play a match with Barcelona than with Argentina any day. This being quite ambitious for me to accept since they are one of my favorite national squads to watch...
This is just my opinion...but I also don't see Benzema interacting/meshing well with Guardiola or our team. Not to mention the time being spent learning our style futbol....IMO
The French league is no Spanish league either. Not to continue reiterating the same discussion points but he does have more playing experience within La Liga and with Messi...and let us not forget

Kun also started playing for Independiente at 15, breaking the record previously established by Maradona in 1976.
Yes, I'm very well aware of Benzemas career statistics and honors however Benzema has declared that his personal goal is to play for Real Madrid.
GOOD RIDDENCE
