Torres first option to replace Eto'o

Catalan sports paper Sport claims that Barcelona is interested in Liverpool forward and Spanish international Fernando Torres (24).

Barcelona president Joan Laporta would have had a first informal but positive meeting with Torres during the FIFA World Player gala in Geneva last month.

If Barcelona wouldn't be able to close a renewal deal with Barcelona forward Samuel Eto'o this year, which is still the first option of the club, Torres would be the main target to replace the Cameroonian striker, ahead of Valencia's Villa and Lyon's Benzema.

Asked about the rumours linking him with several European top clubs, Torres said at a sponsor event yesterday that he is focused on Liverpool: "There has been a lot of talk about a possible transfer to Real Madrid, Chelsea or Barcelona. I can only say that I don't see myself playing at one of those teams, nor in one of the many other teams I've been linked to. I have to remind that I have a long contract with Liverpool and that's it."

They love him in Liverpool. He's already their most influential player after Gerrard. They'll riot if the board sells him.

I don't buy it, he's said before he wouldn't play for any other spanish team then atlético..
just a stupid rumour..

The option most are avoiding is to put Henry up front and buy a LW... Aguero maybe or Ribery... I see Benzema as a more ideal replacement if Eto'o leaves but Torres is quality as well

thats the best option if eto decides to leave, but i dont think thats the case.eto will stay we will only buy a left winger upfront(ribery silva).although i can see torres coming in the next 2 years ,now he is very happy at liverpool and he is doing great there

fantastic player. I agree it would be the best option if eto'o leaves but I don't think the price tag will fit!

i seriously doubt that they would let him go.he is their second best player and one of the very best striker in the world. david villa would be much more attainable option in case etoo would leave, which i hope wont happen. i like etoo a lot, he is clinical in front of the net and fits very well.
even though henry´s preformance has improved a lot, i would see him as a very good bench player and our line up up front as ribery, etoo, messi (omg:). sinc ehenry´s salary is staggering, i dont think it would be a good idea to keep him rot on the bench. lets sell him in the summer, while he is worth something.man. city would gladly buy him and use those money to attract ribery.

Torres or Villa would be the best choices if Eto'o leaves. Although I find it hard to see Torres leaving Liverpool now.

Interesting how things go...
Torres (while still playing for Atletico) once said that he was flattered that a team like Barcelona were interested in him and that they are the only team in Spain other than Atletico that he would play for.
Now he wouldn't play for anyone other than Liverpool. He will not go back to Atletico as long as he still has ambition. (No offense intended to Atletico or their fans)
