Asked about the renewal of his contract that expires next summer (read more here), Barcelona central defender and Spanish international Carles Puyol (31) has said in an interview with the club's official media that there are no problems:
"I know that people are talking a lot about all this but I'm very calm about the issue. I feel important here. I have always said that my wish is to continue here, to stay here for many more years. I feel very good at the club and I want to help the team.
I have only one year left and that might seem a short time for some but I'm very relaxed because a year is a lot. What I want now is to prepare myself for the coming season, to help the team and the rest will come. There is no problem at all.
I want to make clear that I don't have any problem with the coach. On the contrary. We've talked a lot and he knows what I am thinking and I know what he is thinking. And the truth is that I am very happy. I think it is normal that the club is looking to strengthen the back line. If we want to compete for six trophies, that means we will have to play a lot of games and therefore you need players."

he will never betray the club.
That's my captain!
Although I don't understand why it takes so long. Same goes for Marquez. Can't be that difficult...
He's one of the greatest player in our history, and one of the 5 best defenders of the world in this moment, and also i think he can play on this highest level two more years, and after that he will be perfect back up. So, there is no way "El Comadante" will go anywere else.
We can sell Marques, Caceres or Milito and Abidal, and buy Chirginsky and some fantastic left back like Lahm next year, and that's all what we need to do to have fantastic defense for next 5 years.
Next year, if we buy Fabregas and some fantastic expensive winger, what is not so expensive if we sell older players like Hleb, Keitha, Guddy and Henry.
With 3 fantastic new players, and our few young players like Thiago, Bojan and Pedro, I see our future will be brilliant.
OFF - TOPIC
Mesut Özil is not ready to sign a renewal anymore with his current club Werder Bremen & his contract is about to end by 2011 summer. So it seems the club would be ready to cash in on the talented attacker now!
I wonder if our board would be interested. Özil is seriously a rare talent. Bremen wanted him to replace Diego & he's been quite promising in that role, but since the negotiations for his renewal are off, they are forced to sell him. He played at when Diego was still at Bremen. One of the most ideal players for our requirements IMO
at WING* when Diego was still at bremen
Yeah! read that on goal.com. I doubt if it's true. But here's an interesting article about the player

The problem with buying Lahm is that he's quite offensive like Maxwell and Alves. It's not always good for team balance to have both flanks with attacking wing backs.
LOL... Looks like no takers for Mesut Özil huh!? He's been brilliant in the recent U-21 European Championship
ozil would be best young and will agree to come as sub and as backup ..he would be good for our left wing ...ozil can also play both wing and CAM postion ...he is quiet versatile ...inesta type player would surely develop ...get him before other clubs go for him!!!
I watched many games of Ozil, and he's great. Because he's most important player in Werder, it's hard to get him. But, if price is less than 25 millions, we should buy him, he's a very young talented player and looks like Iniesta few years before.
They are trying to offload him bosnian, so won't be football manager prices ;)
it seems his agent gave a statement they won't be renewing the contract
if thats the case then we shld really get him he is a team player who likes to work for the team ... good ball control, efficient passing and creative player its hard to get the talent at his age since most club wont sell them but due to his contract prob it will be diff case!!

watch this video of ozil he is a goos player ..... in this video u can see he is real talent!!!!!!
For our paper-thin squad he would be a very valuable addition with his versatility, both as a CM & as a LW. IMO signing him for like 15-18m & then sending out Thiago or JDS like a Marc Crosas transfer with a cheap buy-back option seems to be a very good idea. But I doubt the board would even consider :(
If boards not consider that, they are crazy, off course, Pep must say that he want Ozil.
And does anybody knows what is about Mancini, it seems like he is in same situation, and he's also great player
