Madrid sports tabloid As claims that Barcelona will soon move for Athletic Bilbao central defender Fernando Amorebieta (23). Barcelona has been following the left-footed player over the last four years and thinks he's now ready for a transfer to the top.
Catalan radio station Radio Barcelona claims that the matter is already between the hands of the Barcelona board and that Barcelona plans to open negotiations soon. The club has been informed about the player's contract situation.
Amorebieta, who was born in Venezuela but played for the Spanish youth selections, has a buyout clause of 30 million euro°. Alerted by the many - mainly English - clubs that are following their central defender, Athletic wants to offer Amorebieta a renewal offer, including a rise of that clause.
