Although it was rumoured earlier this summer that former Barcelona player Gerard López (29) had signed a two-year deal with Greek club PAOK Saloniki, the Catalan midfielder is still available on a free transfer after Recreativo Huelva decided not to use the option to extend his contract for another season.
The player is currently training with local Catalan club Granollers, the club of his hometown.
Gerard came through the Barcelona youth ranks but left the club for Valencia in 1997. Three years later, newly elected Barcelona president Joan Gaspart bought the player back for a transfer fee of over 20 million euro. The Catalan midfielder joined Monaco on a free transfer in the summer of 2005. With Barcelona, Gerard won one Spanish league in 2005.

Gaspart was probably the dumbest chairman I have ever seen...
he paid some incredible fees for mediocre players.
Saviola
Giovanni
Gerard
Rochemback
and many others...he really screwed Barca.
I forgot to say
Gerard had a very strong season before we bought him...but he was always hurt and actually never lived up to any expectations.
Its like when Mendieta was gone from Valencia...he was never close to his Valencia days anymore...
Overmars and Petit...
yeah Gaspart really ruined the club that days...they won nothing and Gaspart was only spending money on stupid players like: Christanval, Rochemback, Petit, Geovanni, Alfonso, Dani, Gerard, Riquelme, Patrik Andersson, Enke, Bonano, got back van Gaal as a trainer <-Worst decision ever! Etc..Etc
hey, hey. dont diss patrik anderson. anyhow Riquelme and other have proved to excellent players but they never fitted into our system.
