Debate: The transfer summer of Real Madrid

The summer transfer period came to an end on Monday at midnight. For Real Madrid this is the result of the transfer activity over the past months:

IN
Van der Vaart (Hamburg)
De la Red (Getafe)
Javi García (Osasuna)
Garay (Santander)

OUT
Robinho (Manchester City)
Baptista (Roma)
Soldado (Getafe)
Balboa (Benfica)

How do you think Madrid starts the new season? They've made good transfers, the squad is stronger? Or the opposite?

Financially they had an excellent summer: picked up Van der Vaart for a rather low price and sold Robinho for a "rather" high price.

On sporting level I don't think they are stronger, this is not a team where the top EPL teams will be worried about. Too much weaknesses.

Spot on assessment by djoef. I would just add that the reacquisition of De La Red seems to have gone very much under the radar and largely unnoticed. But believe you me, he has the talent and ability to make a name for himself at the Bernabeau if just given the chance. He really scares me as a player. Just witnessing his brief apperance(s) at the Euro's only comfirmed my suspicions.

Sure they (Madrid) wasted too much time focusing and putting all their eggs in one basket over Ronaldo, but they literally "stole" Van der Vaart from Hamburg and considering the loss of Sneijder for the time being it was an excellent on their part.

Thankfully (for us) they were unsuccessful in their attempts in prying Villa from Valencia. But seeing that they have an aging frontline it wouldn't surprise me to see Madrid and Barcelona engaged in a war over Benzema next summer...that is unless Man City get to him first which I certainly wouldn't put it past them.

I'm rather confused.
on the one hand, this is like the first summer since the "Galacticos" era that real didnt land a world star or young talent, but on the other, those deals didnt really help them (i belive barca's weakness is the reason theyve won la liga for tha last 2 years).
but maybe staying for 2 seasons with more or less the same team will help them play better.

i think they have rather excellent players, even without robinho.
but only time will tell,
lets hope it tells us they were relegated :D

van der Vaart is a piss poor player and extremly overated. Sure he's good when he's not injured, which he is almost all the time, but he's not world class.

De la Red is good, I agree with cojonudo, but will he play a lot? I think they have a lot of candidates in midfield, all of them having more or less the same level. And Schuster seems to like Diarra, so will he take Guti or Van der Vaart out to give de la Red a go? I don't really think so. Although it could work.

When Soldado came back last year after a good season with Osasuna, I also thought he would be a solid back-up for Ruud VN. But he didn't get a chance.

de la red and higuain will get into the team. That will be a good thing for them. but they will not win la liga this year..robben vdv sneijder are injuried A LOT

The only post i dont even care to read it. why do we care so much about madrid we make them stronger by this way they are the enemmies we all know that they are bastards.

I think the only transfer I'd like to see the Evil Empire make is into a never-ending, slow-roasted Hell.

i am just so happy with madrid's summer.I am laughing.Instead of getting stronger, they weakened themselves. They let of baptista(who scored against us last season at camp nou) and replaced him with vandervaart.its same for same

They let go robinho.Didnt replace him. They were short on a right winger and a support striker in absence of raul and nisterlooy. They didnt buy either.(failed in ronaldo and villa bids).

De la red? they didnt need him. They have gago and diarra in his place. He is not gonna play a lot.

And the best thing.Letting robinho go and failure to get their targets have destabalized the club. Its schuster vs majotovic.Team spirit has also been effected.

With Robinho not there anymore, they have a serious problem if Robben gets injured (again). Those were the guys who can make the difference on the wings, without them they don't have that kind of dangerous dribblers who can decide the game with one dribble. Vd Vaart at the left and Sneijder on the right? That won't work.

And they knew that they needed a substitute since they were trying to get some new player at the end but couldn't close a deal...

I don't know. They weren't playing well last season but still won the league quite easily. In Europe they won't play for the prices but in Spain (certainly with the help of the referees) they'll be again our main opponent.

i think its been a great summer for the bastards from our point of view! failed to land every one of the big players they were going for, the only player they did get wants to play for us instead and there a civil war going on in the club. couldnt have gone much better really. serves the madrid right for trying to unsettle every player they wanted instead of being honest. saying that i think ronaldo would have messed the team spirit up and been a flop so maybe that was a shame. as has been said they won due to our weakness over the last two seasons hopefully that wont happen again, we've got stronger they got weaker.

This summer Real Madrid added some young talent to their youth team.

Belgian striker Edouard Kabamba, (from Standard Liege.) Hungarian striker Adam Szalai joined from Stuttgart for £400,000, Hertha Berlin defender Christopher Schorch For £500,000

Arriving from South America are Uruguayan defender Gary, formerly of Danubio, and ex-Boca Juniors wing-back Santiago Villafane.

I don't think the strength/weakness of their has changed that much.

But without Robinho they'll have to rely on Robben, and if he gets injured they might have a problem.

good job Erikoisasiantuntija.

baca brothers i want u 2 suggest 3 players i think we currently lack and we shall add to our squad in january

1.a young goalkeeper to challenge valdes.Preferably he must not be an international.Otherwise he will not be ready to sit on the bench if required.someone like rui patricio

2.a young energetic left wing back to challenge and hopefully replace abidal.Someone licke clichy.

3.a player to play on left wing.Could be a playmaker shifted to left wing as well

and also suggeest a forward to replace henry if he continues being a crap

De La Red is an excellent player. Between him and Gago they will compete better in midfield than last season.
Van der Vaart is good but not much different to Sneijder and Guti. It is also true that he spends quiet a lot of most seasons injured. He was responsible for one of the funniest goals ever conceded with Hamburg

I would not have sold Soldado without a replacement.
Worse squad than last year
Ciaran

I think they look a lot weaker. What happens if Ruud / Raul get injured? The only backup they have for their strikers are Saviola and Soldado unless they opt to play with 1 striker.

They are definitely a weaker team. They have a bunch of slow midfielders in Gago, Diarra, Guti, and VdV. People rate Van der Vaart too highly. Against Valencia he did absolutely nothing. At Euros he did absolutely nothing. All he does is take free kicks. Besides the injury prone Robben, Madrid have no one else really capable of making things happen on the wing. De La Red is nothing too special for me. He takes too long to make decisions and in the first leg against Valencia he was terrible. I am not worry about Madrid at all. All Barca needs to do is handle their business and win the games we are supposed to win and we will be fine.

The Christiano Ronaldo Saga was running through out the summer, and we were all fed up with that thing. I dont know why they needed cr7. They were in the market for several stars but they couldnt bring any star. Their transfer inactivity showed that money is not everything. But they have strike gold with vander vaart. I dont understand why Barca didnt go for him at that price. The signing of garay is also fantastic. The over all transfer activity of theirs was crap, with caldron seriously doesnt know what all he is doing. But the squad of real madrid is really fantastic. They are young and they have also gelled together, I think this team needs no cr7 or anybody for that matter but the loss of robinho is certainly a blow and could have influenced the teams morale. Anyway I still rate Real Madrid as favourites but I desperately want to see Barca win the liga

christina ronaldo is overrated. he is not a team player. his passing is not creative and his dribblig is not that efective. he just runs fast. i think madrid knows that. the only reason y they would want ronaldo i think is to sell T shirts. just like with beckham.

robinho's departute is financially good for madrid. wen sneider returns they will forget about robinho completely.

Van der vaart is ok. not impressive bt ok. he can shoot and pass bt he will not be that main player for madrid this season. i still thinks madrid lacks quality. they have similar players. i dont know the difference between sneider and van der vaart. they play similary.

which means we have to look out for de la red. he looks impresive. i wouldnt b surprised if he sends gago on the bench.

the impressive players that madrid have is casillas, marcelo, ramos, de la red, sneider, robben.

the defense is fair. not awesome.

the attack is mostly lucky goals. opportunistic goals.

am not scared of madrid. they won 2 ligas becoz barca was not in form.

if barca finds equilibrium again madrid will not b able to react.

barcelona's worst oppenent is barcelona itself.

Anonymous said...

ali!i agree with u totally.we need these players.

Real got worse, by not by much...unless Barca gets their heads out of their asses they will beat us like last year.

As I consider Robinho a super star, by selling him Real Madrid lost an important member of the team that could win matches on his own. Although buying van der Vaart was a smart move (I wish we had him on Camp Nou), Real doesn't seem a real scare this season. However, last season they were also not in a good shape but they managed to win the title in Primera, mainly because Barça was even worst. Again this season the main rival for Barça is Barça itself.

Jnice said...

Why do people wish we had vDv? Who would he play over? He is slow and does nothing that players who are already on Barca don't do.
