Inter offers 40 million euro for Eto'o

Rumours that Barcelona forward and Cameroonian international Samuel Eto'o (27) could be for sale spread quickly in the past weeks and interested clubs are studying the possibility of bringing in the player whose contract expires in 2010.

Tottenham was the first Premier League club being linked with Eto'o (read more here). Tottenham forward Dimitar Berbatov (27) could be offered in exchange (read more here). Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that also other Premier League clubs, like Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool or Manchester City, are looking at the option to join the race.

But not only English clubs want to bring in the Cameroonian forward. Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that Fenerbahçe has made a formal offer (read more here) that has been rejected by the player. And Italian sports paper La Gazzetta dello Sport claimed yesterday that Inter is a preparing a 40 million euro° bid for Eto'o.

pep's opinion:
someone should really bring back some calm to the club, cause now it suddenly seems like every player (except for Messi, Iniesta and Bojan) is for sale. and that's not the way to be succesful next season. after two years without a trophy, we don't have time to build a whole different team. eto'o can only leave if you can find a decent player to replace him. and looking at his scoring record, I think that's just very hard to find. we have other priorities, I think you're just creating another problem by selling eto'o. a good chat with guardiola could do wonders.

With all due respect I think you're being a bit to critical about all this. When you consider that Barca has gone two years straight without any silveware added to the fact of not even finishing as runner's up this year what other kind of "reaction" would you expect? The passionate fans are screaming for change, the local media are soaking this all up because nothing "sells" more in the media than controversy, and the Board is sitting up in their ivory tower while the local denizens are waiting below with fists raised and torches lit!....Not to stray from the Eto'o "issue" I will concede that it would be a terrible blunder on the Boards's part to transfer him without first arriving at an agreement with a suitable replacement. Eto'o's skill nonwithstanding, he is a locker room "cancer" and he hasn't been healthy the past two seasons. So you have to take the good with the bad with him. Personaly I would only consider transferring him if Barca could get back someone of either Benzema's or Huntelaar's talent in return. And I don't see why an Eto'o for Benzema swap straight up would sound so absurd? sure, there's a difference in age, but its not that dramatic in my opinion. I just wish for Eto'o to become someone else's "headache" for a change!

Benzema, who could be the guy we're looking for, is just not on the market. Lyon president Aulas is three times as bad as Sevilla president Del Nido. Benzema is not going anywhere this summer and next summer the guy will probably ask 60-70 (if not more) million euro.

I like Huntelaar cause he's a great finisher but nothing guarantees that he will do the same with us. It could well be a new Kezman case: excellent in Holland but not good enough for the European top. They should have brought Huntelaar a few years ago (or even last summer instead of Henry), so he could have got used to everything playing in the shadow of Eto'o.

If Guardiola can talk Eto'o a fresh head, Eto'o with Bojan as back-up sound good to me (depending on the system Guardiola wants to play). I just think it's better to invest in a top class left winger, where you really have a problem.

Well Pep, I definitely agree with you that a "sit down" between Guardiola and Eto'o needs to take place, and it needs to happen soon!...Guardiola should take a no nonsence approach and state to him quite clearly, "Keep your mouth shut and let your performance on the pitch speak for itself."...I also couldn't agree with you more in regards to Huntelaar. While I'll admit that I've always admired Henry's game, I knew right from the start that he wouldn't be a good fit for Barcelona. He needs to be the central figure up front and besides that "we" didn't need him because we still had Eto'o, Messi and Ronnie up front with Bojan off the bench. It was just overkill! Huntelaar could have come in quietly, without any pressure on him to perform right away and learn the system from some of the worlds best talents. Instead Laporta let his ego get the best of him, (much like Abramovich did with Shevchenko)and let his "desires" get in the way of what was realy best for the club.
