Thuram wants to keep on playing

Barcelona central defender and French international Lilian Thuram (36), whose contract expires in June, has declared at a press conference that he wants to keep on playing next season.

In a interview with French sports paper L'Equipe, Thuram has said that he cannot imagine that he will stay with Barcelona and that he doesn't expect to receive a renewal offer. The French defender doesn't know where he will be playing next season: "I didn't make a decision yet. It will depend on the offers that I will receive."

Has been a big disappointment, he just was not up for the task.

How ironic that almost all the players to a fault are now "claiming" they would like to return next season and be given a second chance. At least in Thuram's case one can better understand why he performed so poorly...his age! There's not much tread left on his tires but I do think he would make an excellent assistant coach one day. Quite honestly I wasn't expecting much from him on the pitch this past season. I was hoping that he could have been more of a "father figure" and mentoring force for Yaya and Abidal especially. I just hope they learned "something" from this consummate pro...even if the legs weren't there anymore.
