Edmilson close to Villareal

Barcelona defensive midfielder José Edmílson (31) passed a medical in Valencia yesterday and is close to signing for Primera División team Villareal (read more here).

Barcelona has let the Brazilian player, whose contract expires in June, know that he won't be offered a renewal and has given him the permission to negotiate with other teams.

It is expected that Edmílson will be officially presented as Villareal transfer in the coming days and that he will sign a contract for two years. Catalan sports paper Sport claims that the duration is the last obstacle in the negotiations and could be changed in one year plus an option for a second year depending on the number of matches played next season.
