New bid for Silva next week

Catalan sports paper Sport claims that Barcelona will give the transfer of Valencia left winger and Spanish international David Silva (22) another try after the recent changes at the top of his club (read more here)

Barcelona sports director Txiki Begirstain is expected to contact Valencia again in the coming days and make them a bid of 20 million euro°, which would be the maximum fee Barcelona is ready to pay.

Silva's agent would already have closed a deal with Begiristain on a four-year contract for the Spanish winger. The wish of the player, who prefers to stay in Spain and wants to join Barcelona, should put pressure on Valencia whose financial situation could force the club to sell some of their players.

New Valencia president Vicente Soriano said to journalists that he didn't plan to sell Silva: "If everything turns out the way I have planned, that won't be necessary. There will be some transfers, but the essential players will stay."

20M would be nice price, but I don't think Valencia will let him go for that price. They'll ask something about 25-30M, and if Barca won't go above 20M it could be the main obstacle. But the good news is that he wants to join Barca and he could put a pressure for leaving. He could be good signing and it would be enough for this summer. I hope Eto'o will stay, and Laporta made U-turn on Eto'o after last night's game vs Dundee.

I have an idea, can this wonderful blog can be protected so that only we(Barca fans) can come in,so that all others cant leave a comment(bullshit)
Is it possible Pep

I don't know. I could leave comments only open for people who have a google account but then people who don't have it, can't react. I have to say the "bullshit" is actually less than you could expect on the net.

But in the coming weeks, once the transfer period is coming to an end, we'll shake this blog up and then you'll be able to give your ideas or suggestions to make it a better place.

I wouldn't go over 20mil for Silva either. If Valencia refuse to sell that is their right, but they will be hard pressed to find a team that will match their asking price. Left wingers being sold for 20+mil in today's market is the exception rather than the rule.

If I was Barcelona I would cast my fishing line with the 20mil "bait" for Silva or Arshavin and see who bites first. As I've said before, as long as Arshavin's "in play" that only helps Barcelona buttress him in their negotiations with Valencia for Silva.

more midgets. Silva is not a good buy, especially for €20m+. he's fairly fast and fairly creative, with good technical skill, but as Kxevin has said there's nothing he does that Hleb or Iniesta couldn't do if put on the left. he essentially doesn't bring anything new to the team but filling a hole in the roster. Arshavin's still the better bet, and if you can get them for the same price why not?

Hello, this is a great site, is there any Barca fans from Singapore?

I agree with 'Ba', he is far from a necessary buy. I would as far as to say that Silva is over-rated! While Arshavin would be a better for the team, I still feel that Barca are not looking hard enough for new talent. Surely it must be better for them to get a great-unknown than try to get a good-star.

Barca shouldn't try to emulate R.Madrid's 'Galáctico' and buy players just becuase they are well-known

If Arshavin's price-tag doesn't decrease, Thiago Neves is the only solution imo.

Imagine, we sell Eto'o, keep Henry, the frenchman doesn't score as much as he wants and we're stuck with our Messi, Bojan and our midfield to score goals.

We need 3 guys up front, who are able to score 15+ goals in all competitions a season.

So, Arshavin or Neves. The 2nd should be the cheapest option, but you never know with this brazilians and their agencys,...

Does anyone think that Aguero could be played on the left wing? I realize that signing him is maybe unlikely, but if he could play comfortably on that wing Id rather the club spent more on him rather than get silva. Maybe get Neves as well for depth.

Also I noticed that Abidal hasnt featured in either of the preseason games. Is he injured? Is he going to be sold? I think they should get rid of him, maybe include him in a Benzema-Eto'o deal. To replace him Barca should get Maxwell from Inter.

I respect Silva's talent, but I would be much more excited about this if he scored more goals. Having said that, I think we should still give Arshavin a chance, even if that meant he would have to get broken into the liga before he got into top scoring form.

but i'll take both if possible =)

Abidal and Sylvinho both have minor injuries.

Ok,that would be good
Because this is just for Barca fans and not for other clubs fans
Back to the Silva subject,I would say that he is a good buy (young, agile, fast) and 20 mil would be a perfect price because we have a lot of money

To K1:
1.There's no bullshit on this blog. Everyone of us love Barca and, of course, we're all Barca fans. Maybe, we say something bad about coach, board or players, but that's just for benefit of the club.
2.You said:"we have a lot of money", maybe it is true right now, but it doesn't mean that we should overpay some players or buy unnecessary. I'd rather give that millions to the african children than 20+M for Silva. He didn't impressed at all at Euro 08 and he is totally not needed.

"I'd rather give that millions to the african children than 20+M for Silva."

- Hats off to whoever said that. That is the reason why I hate Abroamovich and his little puppet-slash-phantasy-team Chelsea. Seriously, how can you respect this guy when milions of children and even men and women are starving to death. Just think about where Chelsea would be today, if it wasn't for him. He is the reason why Chelsea is even talked about by anyone. People seem to forget that it's not the history or the players who have made his club great but only Abramovich's money. Just think about how much he has tarnished the beautiful game since Chelsea have become a powerhouse. Everytime they get through the group stages of the CL, I hope with all the passion I have for this game that they don't win it because every time they progress in the knockout phases makes me just want to quit watching the beautiful game. Abramovich: you are a disgrace to football!!!!!

I would also go for arshavin rather than for silva because he would bring in something new which silva wouldn't in my opinion as he isn't that different from iniesta just like we don't need fabregas because he's similar to xavi... and as arshavin seems to be cheaper than silva i would definetely prefer him... besides as we are looking for a left winger, that means henry will play in the centre(what pep also stressed a few times) so why are we looking for another star player for that position? anyway, keep eto'o, get arshavin if possible and even if we don't get him, our spuad is perfect like this!
