Spanish football site Airfutbol claims that Barcelona Atlètic captain and central defender Marc Valiente (21) will join Greek club Panthinaikos on a free transfer.
New Panathinaikos manager Henk ten Cate knows the player from his time as assistant coach in Barcelona.
Catalan sports paper Sport claims that second division club Celta Vigo is also interested in Valiente and would like the include him in a deal with a Celta B player.
Barcelona site Pelikano claimed last week that Valiente had ended up in some kind of no man's land after his transfer to Sevilla B didn't went through (read more here), with the central defender not being allowed to join the first team nor the B team and with Barcelona not looking for another club.

WTF? If this is true I really don't understand why Barca treats its loyal players like this! If he isn't qualified for the first team loan him out for a season so that he can get some first team experience. If Barca sell him they should at a minimum include a buy back clause. Valiente is only 21 so we should give him a chance to make the first team in the future.
I agree. I really don't undestand this move either? It seems the player has fallen out of favor all of a sudden without warning or any sort of tangible explanation. Something must be going on because Barcelona has remained mute on the whole issue so far.
At the very least Barcelona could excuse his release as a surplus of defenders already being added to the club this summer. But I think it goes "deeper" than that. Not to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but there's more to this story than meets the eye. Maybe it's a "personal" issue between him and Pep? I guess we may never know. Just a very odd story nontheless.
