Palacio fears Barcelona media pressure

Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that Boca Juniors forward and Argentinian international Rodrigo Palacio (26) has asked his agent Roberto Depietri to give priority to offers coming from clubs with a lower profile than Barcelona.

Despite talks between officials from Barcelona and Boca Juniors in the last days during which both parties came closer to a deal (read more here), the Argentian striker wouldn't be ready to deal with the media pressure he would feel when joining Barcelona. Palacio is known to be a very shy person, who gives almost never interviews and who had already problems with his football boots sponsor because he didn't want to participate in promotional acts.

Although clubs like Chelsea, Arsenal, Juventus and Lyon are interested in Palacio, the player has made clear to his agent that, if he will leave Argentinia, he will only accept to go to Spain. Besides Barcelona, Sevilla and Villareal would be following the forward. Catalan sports paper Sport claims that Sevilla will use 20 million euro° of the transfer fee they will receive for right back defender Daniel Alves, to launch a bid for Palacio.

What a wuss! This guy's pathetic! So, let me get this straight. He has NO problem picking up the huge paycheck but he feels he wouldn't be able to handle the "pressure" of the media and the fans in Barcelona?? Give me a break! He should know by now that when you are a top class athlete (making millions of dollars) pressure and media scrutiny come with the territory! If you can't handle the pressure then you should stay were you are and play in front of your 1,000 or so fans and be happy! I guess this rule's out a move to Real Madrid, Man U, Chelsea, Liverpool, etc. because "they" have media pressure as well! We don't need a guy who's intestinal fortitude is as fragile as a porcelain vase!

He is willing to turn down a 'huge paycheck' because of his own personal discomfort. I don't see anything pathetic about that. He loves the game, the competition and is not driven solely by money -if he feels that he cannot overcome his problems then it is better that he is open about it rather than joining Barca and performing badly because of it.

As the "author" of the comment previous to yours I have no shame in admitting that your response (vin49) was one of the most eloquent I've read in quite sometime. Kudos to you my friend.

It is true that fans are ungrateful. Look at Ronnie, he had a bad year and he is considered a criminal. These guys practice 3 times a day, and are never able to party and enjoy life, and when they do the fans hate them. Yes it is not professional to drink and party during the season, but such is life. Get over it fans... players too get injured, need rest, want to party, like women... Barca will lose Dinho, Gio, Eto,Marquez because of the media pressure. Why would Palacio want to deal with this if he simply loves the game. WUSSS? You and I have a normal life, they dont. If Palacio is shy and he does not want to deal with the media, then he is entitled to avoid it or do whatever he pleases.
