Manchester City preparing summer bid for Henry

British tabloid The People claims that Manchester City is preparing an 11 million euro° summer bid for Barcelona forward and French international Thierry Henry (31) (read more here).

Manchester City would see Henry as a realistic top signing after their failed attempt to sign Kaka from AC Milan in January and with their initial leading target Benzema supposedly on his way to join Barcelona.

Henry would be open to the idea of a move back to England and could be tempted to City, especially as they are one of the few clubs in the world who could improve his current salary. The French striker also has a young daughter in England so a move to the Premier League would help his personal life, while his long-term career plan involving a possible move to Major League Soccer in the United States could be negatively influenced by David Beckham's difficult time in Los Angeles Galaxy.

Manchester City believes that Barcelona can be persuaded to sell Henry at the end of this season. The English Premier League club therefore went public with their anger over false reports last week that they are targeting Lionel Messi (read more here) because they hope to do business over Henry, whose contract expires in the summer of 2011.

clever writing but i think its all bogus. the english papers are so bad with the rumours that they put out. i dont think were gonna sell henry this summer, rather we'll probably keep him until his contract runs out.

I have to say it's indeed strange that City suddenly put out a statement that they weren't planning a bid on Messi, while they never had done this in the past when they were linked in a similar way with Messi, Eto'o or Henry (or Ronaldinho last year).

City are just trying not to piss off europe's elite clubs. No sense getting messi and barca angry in case the day does ever come when messi wants to leave

The right decision will be to let him go somewhere and get someone younger.

I believe that Henry should go. If we don't get Ribery, hopefully we will be able to get Cesc. With Cesc in the mix, we can move Iniesta back to the left winger position. What do you all think.

Anonymous presents a very interesting idea. Ribery would fit perfectly on the left, but I also think that we need two of Yaya/Busquets/Keita/Gudjohnsen in the midfield to give freedom to Xavi in front of the two, and also give the midfield more muscle than a midfield with both Xavi and Iniesta. Yaya and Busquets behind Xavi is the best solution for most games. But Iniesta is among the top 10 players in the world, so obviously needs to play. It is a difficult situation.

he's not going to leave.. he recently stated that he want to stay and retire didn't he ? and the only other club for him.. other than barcelona is Arsenal.. we all know that.. Titi should play in the center more..

Man City should try and concern themselves in staying in the EPL. No top footballer let alone with of the calibre and integrity of Henry would go to them. He is happy at Camp Nou and is demonstrating that this season. I think he is good enough to be at Barca until he is 35 and then hopefully he will take on an ambassedor type role. I just love this guy wearing the number 14 shirt. It suits him perfectly just like Messi the number 10.

Henry shuld stay till his contract expires. He is getting better and better this season. And i just might think that he shuld start playing CF because eto has chances and doesnt use them and besides that eto is selfish. Henry has proven that he belongs in a big club like barca is.
