Ex-Barça: Celades to New York Red Bulls

Major League Soccer club New York Red Bulls has officially announced on Wednesday the transfer of former Barcelona player Albert Celades (33).

Per MLS and club policy, the terms of the deal were not disclosed. Celades had been testing with the American club over the last weeks, with the new MLS season starting next week.

The Catalan player was available on a free transfer after Spanish second division club Zaragoza decided not to renew his contract last summer (read more here).

Celades came through the Barcelona youth ranks and joined the first team in 1995. In the summer of 1999 the midfielder joined Celta Vigo on a free transfer.

With Barcelona, Celades won two Spanish leagues in 1998 and 1999, two Spanish cups in 1997 and 1998, one Spanish super cup in 1996, one European cup winner's cup in 1997 and one European super cup in 1997.

He played for Madrid more than he did for Barca, they thought he was the new Redondo. Don't think Barca ever thought much of him as there was hardly any protest when he joined Real.
