Czech newspaper Právo claims that Barcelona is interested in Chelsea goalkeeper and Czech international Petr Cech (25) and Juventus goalkeeper and Italian international Gianluigi Buffon (31).
An anonymous Barcelona executive told the paper that the management of the club is seriously considering to buy a quality goalkeeper in the summer and that they are already talking with both goalkeepers.
Barcelona could make a first bid for Cech by the end of this month. The club would want to spend big with the offer probably going to be more than 50 million euro.
Barcelona marketing vice-president Jaume Ferrer is quoted as saying that the club is looking at the market: "Now we have other worries with the champions league return against Lyon. But of course, we have been discussing new signings, and it is no secret that the goalkeeper is not our strongest link at the moment."
Pavel Zika, the agent of Cech, confirmed to the paper that Barcelona is interested in the Czech goalkeeper but said that it's not likely a deal will be closed: "We know of the interest. But Petr is very happy at Chelsea and has one of the best contracts there. The fact that he's learning Spanish has nothing to do with Barcelona. Petr loves languages and he is good at them. He and his wife Martina are anticipating their second child, they are happy in London and Chelsea will hardly release him."

Why spend 50 million on Cech, when we can get Asenjo for one fifth of that? He'll be at that level in a couple of years anyways. Use those 50 millions on our general left side!
bahahahahahah
pure rumor
LOL. I'll believe it when i see petr cech in barcelona holding up a barcelona shirt after having signed a contract with us. Until then this is pointless.
Cech commits as many howlers as Valdes; he's not the same player he was a few years ago. i don't think he's an acceptable candidate.
Gigi Buffon, on the other hand....
it's a pity his wage demands are so high, and i doubt he'll ever leave Juventus, but he would be a spectacular replacement.
Cech is a great goalie but there is no way chelsea are gonna let him go.
Buffon im not interested in. We are not buying a 31 y old goalie either. No way.
rumours rumours...
peter, you do realise that a 31 year old goalkeeper of the calibre of Buffon can go on for at least another 4 or 5 seasons, don't you?
Buffon will be one of the top 3 goalkeepers in the world for years to come. Look at Van Der Sar, he's 38 I think and is still playing on a very high level.
If this is true then it more likely to be decision from the board rather than the coaching staff. The coaching staff are unlikely to leave VV out in the cold irrespective of how many howlers he commits. The best option would be to get a young keeper like Asenjo who can challenge VV and gradually (as soon as possible as far as I am concerned) take his place. At this point its unlikely that Laporta will take such actions like chucking VV out. It would be nice to see a top keeper at Barca though I would prefer Diego Lopez.
Who pays 50m for a keeper? Honestly...
Especially Barca. If our back line does its job properly, the GK should be largely a spectator. We are meant to dominate the ball.
its no rumors as I just saw on SKY SPORTS UK that his agent comfirmed that Barca are intrested in singing Petr but he wants to stay at Chelsea.
If anyone watched the Juventus v Chelsea match in the Champion's League it would highlight the major difference in class between Cech and Buffon. Cech struggles to catch simple high balls in his area. Buffon has perfect handling and made a wonder save on Belletti towards the end of the game. Cech had some good seasons then received a head injury and hasn't been the same since. And don't forget Cech's HUGE error in the Euro's against Turkey. Barca should get Diego Lopez. But if Barca did get Buffon he would completley outclass Iker
FORZA JUVE!!! FORZA GIOVINCO
Buffon is the best and like others have said, GK can go on well into their 30's ie 36. Only concern with Buffon is he is prone to injuries.
Cech used to be quite good, but even at his best he was no where near Buffon's standard. After the head injury he has become average, he hesitates and is not confident, which is a big NO NO for a GK.
Of course it's a rumour, they always work like that: one newspaper comes up with a complete bullshit story, and the other media refer to this, then the more reputable media refer to the yellow press papers and so on.
Who of you guys really believes that a Barcelona board member would say something like that DURING THE SEASON? Utter bullshit, of course.
A rumor is a rumor and it's good that the pot is stirring about us buying a goalie! We really need one bad!
