Catalan sports weekly paper Gol claims that Barcelona is planning to offer Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola (38) a contract renewal to reward him for his work so far this season.
The current contract of Guardiola, that was signed last June, expires in 2010. The Catalan coach earns a fixed one million euro, with a possible extra 3 million euro in incentives if the team would win all trophies.
Barcelona wants to offer Guardiola a pay rise and a contract that would be automatically renewed each year if none of the parties opposes this.

Great
Pep realy deserves a new contract for what he have done.
But as Pep always says We have not won anything yet.
I hope he becomes Barcas new Ferguson!
Sadly i dont think barca does like england and has coaches like ferguson. They tend to have cycles and projects that run for 4 or 5 years after which they tend to clean house. Hopefully pep may change this
This is a mistake.
He should not be offered anything until he wins something... I dont care how good we look... last two years we looked great at times too.. but guess what ?... we self-destructed and won NOTHING!!!.
Now I dont think we willl go trophy-less again.. but one can never be sure.
Listen.. 6 months ago laporta sat down with pep and said here.. we will pay you a million euros a year.. and we expect you to win.. win your games.. play with style and win trophies.. we value you at 1 million and thats what we are giving you.. Oh and if you win a lot of trophies and play AMAZING football..we will give you a couple extra million dollars. So I dont agree that midway through the season when all that is happening is that we are getting what pep was PAID TO DO. that we decide to give him more money before he won anything.
WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT!!! when he wins something and collects his 1mil + incentives.. then you sit him down and say.. wow.. you exceeded expectations.. the amount we paid you is too low for a successful coach like you and two years is tooo short of a contract.. we want you for longer... how about a new deal. Right now in the middle of the season u want to start a negotiation in which one side rejects and their is all this discussion and rumor about his future..why now.... just let it continue... pep agreed to one million + incentives knowing full well that he was expected to win on that salary.. and he is...
Both sides are getting what they pay/get paid for why change anything now ?
I agree that it would maybe letting focus on his contract and not the football. But again, its just a rumour. So lets see what happens.
Take things for granted when it is official not before.
Marc...
tat was welll put... i too agree to the same... when we sit down n talk about contract renewals n pay rise for players at the end of the season, the manager, being the most important member of the team should also be considered similarly....
we dont wanna start anythin tat might distract Pep from going forward on a very important year for out football team...
i also feel tat Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez started contract negotiations wit the owners n had problems over who decides the transfer of players in n out of the team... after the negotiation problems, Liverpool dropped points (2 draws) n have now got to 2nd place on the table behind Man U...
so, lets wait for the year to end n we can evaluate how much Pep is worth...
hai pep can u give me gol website address
Marc you said the team looked good at times last year? What times were those? The team looked horrible for the past two years and limped to 4th place. It wasnt a simply a matter of the team losing it was the way we were playing which was absolutely horrible. Pep has done well, why not reward him? It can only serve to improve his morale.
barca4life
The team was not horrible 2006-2007 we could have won the league but it was Oleguers fault.
@Ibbelbbe
Oleguer's fault? duuuuhhhh.... if you want to blame one player for Barca's performance for the past two years, it definitely can't be oleguer!
well it can absolutely be Oleguer. yeah he was very bad in previous seasons but that season constantly making crucial errors like failing to play the offside trap so many times in the last stages of the season is a fatal mistake. and it costed the league. specifically against Espanyol in the last minute. Espanyol game brings to me the anger of that moment again.
