Blackburn Rovers interested in Gudjohnsen

British tabloid The Sun claims that Blackburn Rovers is interested in Barcelona attacker and Iceland international Eidur Gudjohnsen (30).

Blackburn Rovers manager Sam Allardyce, who worked with Gudjohnsen at Bolton Wanderers in the 1999-2000 season and who already tried to sign Gudjohnsen when he was Newcastle manager in the 2007-2008 season, is determined not to sell striker Santa Cruz until he has found a replacement and would therefore be checking on Gudjohnsen.

With the Icelandic striker not being guaranteed first-team football at Barcelona, Blackburn hopes to have a chance to sign the player. Gudjohnsen, whose current contract with Barcelona expires in the summer of 2010, could be available for 2 million euro°.

Asked about the rumour, the player's father and agent Arnor Gudjohnsen said in an interview with British sports site Setanta that Gudjohnsen will certainly not leave Barcelona in January: "No there is nothing, he is not going anywhere, 100 percent. Guardiola said at the start of the summer that he wants to keep him for the whole season so he is at least staying until the summer.

In the summer he has one year left on his contract, then we will see what happens but I think he would like to play his contract out in Barcelona. There has always been interest from different clubs, but you know, nothing that he has even looked at or thought about. I have to be honest with you, I have not heard from Blackburn. There is nothing going on."

In an interview with British sports site Sky Sports, Arnor Gudjohnsen repeated the same message: "There been no contact with Blackburn Rovers regarding Eidur. Eidur is happy at Barcelona and is concentrating on helping them win silverware this season. There is always interest in Eidur, but I have not heard from Blackburn. I don't think anything will happen in January as Eidur wants to stay and Barcelona want to keep him."

2,5 million us dollar
2 million british pound

Isn't €2m a bit too less? I mean we've got that much for players such as Crosas, and even more for Dos Santos. Surely Guddy would fetch more than just 2 million!

With his contract running out in one year, you won't get a lot I guess. Plus don't forget the salary, that wpuld also be 3-4 million we don't have to pay...

I think at this point, we just want something for him. Better that than leaving on a free.

Yes, it's a damned sight less than what we paid for him, by the by.

But given his unsuited for the Liga skill set, I'd be stunned if we aren't looking to sell him this summer.

You can't see him move now when he could be in for winning some trophies. So if Blackburn sells Santa Cruz soon, he won't be the one to replace him. He's performing better than expected this season, although with Keita and busquets we know have two other strong guys to play next to Xavi in midfield.

He seems to be one of Guardiola's favorites. He is a good back-up player, displays considerable intelligence with his of the ball movement, has sufficient close control not to lose possession and finishes off moves well. However he often seems to lose concentration during games. I d be surprised if he left in the summer. I don't think Guardiola will let either of Keita or Guddy go. His biggest problem during the summer will be how to ward off a big name signing for the 3rd midfielder role since he gets so much of work done by the player in that position.

I'd sell him immediately, why not? Maybe to start negotiating while someone is still interested for the price about 5M. The price will certainly drop, but let's try. Keita is not part of this story, but he's mentioned above, so, if Marseille break the bank for him, Barca will find great replacements. Excellent replacement for Gudjohnsen could be Gourcuff, and I'd definitely chase Hamsik as replacement for Keita. I think Hamsik has potential to be the best DM in the world. BTW, I'm not Slovak, but this guy plays great football.

Gudjohnsen started the season good and was a good suprise (he wanted to "pay back" för the thrust he got from Guardiola).

But he became less good for everytime he played. Of course it depends of too little minutes. The best way to come to a good level is by playing.

But i don't see any big reason not to sell him. Save the salary and use the 2-3 milj on someone else.

I would like to have then first of all a younger player, and i prefer someone from Spain.
There are many good m.f players in Spain that will fight like crazy when puting Barca cloth on.

(it will be pity for Guddi, because we know he likes life in Barcelona. The wife and children are happy, and his boy is playing with the junior barca team, but that´s life if you are a fotboll player. You need to move).

I say let the rest of the season play it self out first, before thinking about giving him away. He plays well with the team and contributes alot when needed...
