Guardiola refused third contract year

Catalan sports paper Sport claims that Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola, who signed a two-year contract as Barcelona head coach back in June (read more here), refused to sign a three-year contract because that would have meant that Joan Laporta's successor as Barcelona president would be tied starting his term in 2010.


Then Barcelona sports vice president Marc Ingla offered Guardiola a three-year contract including a clause that obliged the new president to pay a fine of half a million euro if he wouldn't count on the manager for the 2010-2011 season.

Guardiola will earn this season a fixed salary of one million euro that could go up to four million euro through incentives based upon results.
