Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that French club Marseille is interested in Barcelona midfielder and Mali international Seydou Keita (28).
Marseille wants to return to the top of European football and the transfer of Keita next summer would in that perspective be one of the priorities.
The Malian midfielder, who played for Marseille in the 1999-2000 season, should become one of the key players and leaders of the new project.
The French club would be willing to pay a considerable transfer fee and wants to make Keita, whose signed for Barcelona last summer and whose contract expires in 2012, an offer he could difficultly refuse.

make us an offer we could difficulty and we can come back and discuss..
difficultly refuse*
If Barca can get some "decent" money for him I'd sell him this moment. I was unhappy when Barca bought him last summer but he's a good player no doubt. Reasons to sell him are:
-his age
-several players at the same position (Yaya-better than him, Busquets-young and prospective player)
I see Hamsik as excellent replacemnt for him or Diame (from Rayo) who could easily accept bench role. Let's wait until summer.
*replacement
You who compare Yaya Toure and Keita must ot have seen how we use Keita.
Keita and Guddy have the same role, box to box players.
Keita is adding one thing that is so valuable when hes on the field, and thats the heading and goal scoring ability which none of our others midfielders have.
He saved us against Villareal with a header and have done one before. Dont remember in which game though.
Without Keita on the field, who should Alves send in his crosses too?
No i think Keita is important for those games that gets stuck.
But if they pay upp, maybe we should look for a player just like Keita.
Though i dont think Pep wants to sell, because Keita is the best at what hes doing right now.
i wouldnt say that hamsik would be a true replacement as he plays slightly different role in napoli, but as a slovakian fan of fcb i would be aroused if i would see him in barca´s kit :)
Criff, have you seen Yaya against RM? It's true, Keita saved our ass vs Villarreal and Getafe when he equalized. I don't think Pep will sell him next summer, but if they offer something around 12-15M I say why not?!
He gives us height and good arial pressense, but its true with iniesta toure xavi and busquets there is a good but of compitition for places. Maybe iniesta can move to the left wing to to give toure keita xavi and busquets more time. I'd hate to see him go but 10-15 million and i'd seriously consider letting him leave if he wanted to.
I wish someone would make the same offer for Guddy. There are about 6-7 players competing for 2 places in LM n LF n yet the talk is still always of strengthening the left side. I figure we need to sell at least 2 of them before we decide to buy anyone else on that flank. But keita performs an important role running thro from midfield n covering for the defense. Rather get rid of guddy n hleb. But i think we could manage fine without keita so if the offer is good we should go for it.
Do Marseille have any players we d be interested in buying ?
Taiwo, strong left back? Zenden?
I prefer then to sell Guddy and not Keita.
Keita does not do exactly the same job as Yaya. Guardiola uses them a bit diffrenent.
Keita never complains when is sitting on a bench. A great player to have there to try to change a match, or even for rotating.
Keita was very important in Sevilla and as it is his first season in FCB, i think he does a well job.
Maybe even better later och next season?
Zenden ?!? Again ?
I won't repeat my reasons I like him and rated his signing highly (from his rating the new signings feature here), but do keep in mind that we signed him for 15 million Euros and had to pay the tax too (ten percent I recall so 16.5 million Euros), and he has not disappointed, so for Marseille to make an offer that is worth FCB's time they need a 20 million Euro offer I'd think. They are not going to offer that much, and would have a hard time paying him what Barca does in salary. So it ain't happening.
As far as selling Guddy, sure I'd see him go first, but he has been a real trooper as far as dealing with seeing mostly spot duty for the last 3 years, so unless someone wants to pay us 5 million Euros, he's a valuable sub.
Barca is lucky to have so many players who are or were captains on their international teams or former clubs, who accept working for the greater good of the team, rotation, coming of the bench, etc. (Keita and Guddy both are part of that group). -- Gilmango
