Barcelona considers offer for free agent Cruz

Italian sports paper La Gazzetta dello Sport unconfirmedly claims that Barcelona is interested in signing Inter Milan forward and Argentinian international Julio Ricardo Cruz (34) coming summer.

Because Cruz' contract at Inter expires at the end of this season and the player didn't yet sign a renewal with the Italian champions, the player is free to start talking with other clubs from January on. Barcelona would be considering to make the Argentinian striker a contract offer.

No, no, no. Please - NO.

I know that we signed Larsson when he was nearly that age, too, but there's a HUGE DIFFERENCE between Cruz and him. Cruz WON'T BE the next Larsson, he's average at his best. And I really don't like him as a player. And when you add the fact that he's 34-years old - man, what the fuck.

I'm not as cynical about this move. if we can get him for cheap and he is willing to take a role off of the bench this could be a good move. He is tall and can be useful in the air and has scored some key goals for inter in the past few years. Could be good to have another experienced head in the squad to help along bojan and pedro.

This guy couldn't score enough to get into a good team when he was in his mid-20s. wats the point in buying him now. he really is a very mediocre player n we really dont need him. we can use henry for the same purpose.

to sign cruz ...sign crespo if not try to re sign larsson u want to spend a bit and take it further get del piero

I would only consider him if we didn't have to pay a transfer fee and only on a 6 month contract until the end of the season. Seriously though we are better off promoting one of our younger strikers to give them more experience.

I know Mancini used him as an impact striker and he did reasonably well but won't he take up a Non EU spot and like has been mentioned before he is 34! When Larson came to Barca he was playing regularly for Celtic. Cruz has barely played a game. Give Bojan more playing time I say. Happy New Year from Melbourne. We are one of the first cities to bring in the New Year in about 15 hours time!

Oh btw i assumed he was joining in june as his contract with inter is up this year. We can offer him a contract now and he would move for free in june.

HELL NO!

We have enough strikers like henry, samuel eto'o, and bojan krkic so why get some old dusty fart like cruz!??

All we need is a natural left winger like david silva. we can even get david villa or sergio aguero to play as a second stiker but i would prefer silva because we dont need more goals, we just need a bit more creativity and distribution coming from the left side so we can take some of the pressure of messi to do all that stuff and soon he'll be back to playing the way he was earlier in the season.

What happens when etoo goes to african cup of nations next year if henry is injured at the same time? Leaves a frontline of Bojan alone for the centre foward position. Aguero david silva cesc and benzema all cost large sums of money. its not likely barca will spend big next year after spending big this summer. Cruz is a cheap option that helps out our bench without having to pay through our teeth.Barca only has 22 first team players this year. Why not add some depth to the squad for cheap?

Yes I agree with you guys Barca do NOT need cruz Barca needs a LW like Silva,Ribery,Reyes,Aguero,Capel,Arshavin
and di Maria.
What you think?

He's no good. I'm a die hard fan of Argentinian football. I don't like it everytime he plays for Argentina, yet Alfio Basile always pick him. He couldn't do much. Thank God his not Maradona's favourite player.

Why all the negativity? Eto'o will go to the African Cup of Nations, and say if Henry gets injured, we're left with Messi, pedro and Bojan for the CF spot. These players are different to Cruz. Cruz adds another dimension to our game and plus he will be free and should accept a bench rrole.

Dani's crosses should be good for Cruz. I agree he isn't a good overall player, but he does score occasional impact goals.

He's free, not minute-demanding and has something our squad doesn't. So why not?

He will give more depth in our squad. He also can become the target for Alves' crosses.

It was many tolks about Guradiola wishing a physical striker. The long story with Addebayor all summer and so on...
But those talkings was most because of planing to sell the lion eto'o.
We handle the situation very well without any well bulding -striker.

I suppose it is only a bullshit speaking just now.
But i don't know.
Maybe Pep is still wishs to have one player lika this in the squad.

And it needs to be then someone that can stand sitting longtime on the bench. Cruz is maybe the right one, becuase many others youngers or "stars" will not like the idea.

It can be also a shift of Henry in the summaer.
There are many signs in the air that point about Henry leaving to USA or semewhere else.
Let's see later.

We are not ready yet with this season,

We could use a tall, strong striker like Cruz when having to cope with a team building up two defensive walls in front of their area. With the crosses Dani throws in he could do well. He will be cheap and would not mind sitting on the bench.

Some downsides: this could slow down Bojan's growth since he would play less in total. And will he occupy an non-EU spot in the team?
