Adebayor wouldn't say 'no' to Barcelona

Asked about the rumours linking him with Barcelona, Arsenal forward and Togolese international Emmanuel Adebayor (24) has said in an interview with Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo that he heard the news through the press: "Nobody has spoken directly to me or to my agent at this moment. But maybe things will change tomorrow, I don't know."

The Arsenal striker certainly does not reject the possibility of ending up in Barcelona: "Of course I want to play with Barcelona because it's one of the biggest clubs in the world. So if Barcelona would make an offer and they come to an agreement with Arsenal, I would be happy to move. You just don't say 'no' to Barcelona. I would like to play there, now, in two years or in ten years. But at this moment I'm an Arsenal player. One has to wait for an offer and let's see what happens then. I won't get nervous about all this, I plan to enjoy my holidays."

Adebayor acknowledges that the city of Barcelona is attractive to him and could make the decision easier but he doesn't want to leave with a fight: "If you're a good player, it's normal that your club doesn't want to let you go. Arsenal would ask a lot of money and you should see if Barcelona is ready to pay. I'm thankful for the chance Arsenal gave me, so if I would have to leave, I want to do it in a good way."

Stéphane Courbis, the agent of Adebayor, meanwhile denied the interview to British sports site Setanta Sports saying that the quotes were fabricated: “When you know how great his relationship with Arsenal and with Arsene Wenger is, you do not expect him to say what is written in the press. Emmanuel is not stupid. It is stupidity from journalists, who even quoted me in England, whereas my English is not good at all.”

I'm realy starting to think that some members of the Barca board are complete idiots! Why pursue ANOTHER central striker when you already have Eto'o, Henry and Bojan (off the bench)as primary central strikers on the team? Yes, I know Bojan has played on the wing but his "natural" position is as a lone (central) striker. What this teams needs is a LEFT WINGER!! So, what's the bloody point of letting Eto'o leave only to get the same positional player in return?! I'd rather hold onto Eto'o if that was the case! I'll say it 'till I'm blue in the face. GO AFTER GUARDADO! WE NEED GUARDADO ON THE LEFT WING! If not Guardado then Capel! Memo to the Board: HENRY CANNOT PLAY ON THE LEFT WING! SO STOP PLAYING HIM THERE ALREADY!! Wether its Txixi or Laporta, or whoever, these people have absolutely NO common sense! With the current 4-3-3 alignment you have Eto'o in the middle, Messi to the right and NOBODY, HELLO!! on the left! What? are you suddenly going to try Bojan on the left now? Please! No wonder this team's so f****d up!

I completely agree with you. The Henry Barca bought isn't the same Henry they thought they were buying, but he has played alright this season with 18 goals. Yet, if Eto'o is going, they could play Henry down the middle and then buy a left winger, preferably Capel...

I totally agree with you on the dire need of a left winger. however my first woul anyday be Silva. silva is much better than capel or guardado. neither capel nor guardado have too much experience on the continental level nor are they as consistent or as versatile as silva. only problem though is the price, which could be solved if valencia get relegated or if the player pressures the club.

Good point on Silva, although how you would be able to afford to bring him in if (as expected) we get Alves and possibly a central defender or two might be impossible. Considering that Villa might move to the EPL that opens up a spot for a striker at Valencia. In that case I wouldn't be opposed for an Eto'o for Silva swap. Or perhaps Barcelona could offer cash AND Dos Santos to soften the transfer cost? It's going to be tough for Barca to win a bidding war against the likes of Chelsea, Man U (who AREN'T they after!) or even Real Madrid for him...unless of course, he is resolute in his desire to join Barcelona. Excuse me if I start to drool over the possibility of a Silva, Eto'o or Henry, and Messi triumvirate upfront! One can dream.

please read adebayor's interview on the arsenal website. He is happy at arsenal and is not interested in a switch to barcelona.

i just want toknow wat's athletico madrid's aguero situation is.. cuz he's an excellent talent (always compared to messi) and still young, and would really blend perfectly with barca especially in the left wing.... just think about it, two messi upfront.. thats a dream.

Aguero's not going anywhere! You would have to break the bank to get him, (think along the lines of 100mil Euros). Barca's not going to spend that money on one player. Barca would be better served offering up a player (or two) AND cash. Unless Aguero "put's a gun to their head" and demands a "transfer or else" he's staying put.

I agree..Eto' is of the elite and should be treasured reasurred appreciation and kept. The Barcelona Team needs his love for scoring.. The whole team was at fault for a title-less season, but i don't think it was a striker situation that was in aid of the less then ambitious seasons standings. It was Injuries and lack of high morale on and off the field. the back four needs to be re-assessed (sylvihno was a more effective then abidal and shouldv'e played more) but as for the strikers i don't agree with change.
