Why is Bojan not playing?

Yesterday, the four main Spanish and Catalan sports papers all had a story on the lack of playing time of Barcelona forward and Spanish international Bojan Krkic (18) this season, despite the player having signed a five-year contract renewal few weeks ago (read more here) and the fact that Barcelona doesn't have an excess of strikers.

All indicate that Bojan not only didn't start an official game so far but that he looks to be at this stage of the season the fifth-ranked forward, also behind Pedro who was this summer promoted to the first team. Guardiola apparently doesn't intend to use Bojan on the wings, where he even prefers to play midfielders like Hleb and Iniesta.

Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that Bojan is just not the type of centre forward Guardiola has been looking for. The Barcelona manager wanted to sign a strong target man like Adebayor or Drogba this summer and Bojan is not really fitting that profile.

Madrid sports tabloid As claims that Guardiola could be paying Bojan back because the striker refused to return to Barcelona B, then coached by Guardiola, at the beginning of last season when he came back from the World Cup U-17.

Why do these newspapers always have to stir shit up. Of course Bojan isnt going to be a regular starter, he is only just 18 for f's sake! Pedro gets more play time because he is a pure winger so putting him on gives us genuine width. Bojan is a striker, so he is a sub for Eto'o. The only reason he saw so much play time last season was because of all the injuries we had. He cannot expect the same amount of time on the pitch this season, im sure he will get his chance though. Guardiola has already said he sees him as very important but he wants him to mature properly. No sense in rushing the boy!!!

PEP! Do you have RSS feeds for this blog? Should be nice, so i can put them in my Outlook and check it now and then

I hope Bojan gets more playing time because hes better then Pedro even on the wings. Last season he scored 10 goals, mostly playin on the wings...i dont see Pedro score the same amount

I'm really bad at this, e... But there's an "Atom-feed" at the bottom of each page. Is that good enough or should I really need to do something about that?

for RSS, if you use firefox, just click the RSS button next to the URL. I think thats how it works?

At the left you can now find a "subscribe" section. Let me know when it's not enough so I'll search for the rest.

Thanks Pep :)....that "Atom-feed" works in my outlook :)

first of all when some people say bojan is not playing, yaya is not playing, caceres, and everyone I feel as if we are in the 25th week of the season or something, they played two games in the season. keep that in mind...

Bojan is a youth, in some other teams he would dream to shake hands with seniors, so lets not spoil the guy, he still have a long way to go. If yaya is welling to understand pepe decision then bojan must have no complains.

Bojan should be a starter! but it does sound like papers just starting nonsense

Krkic isn't playing because he isn't good enough....yet. His potential is immense, but it would be optimistic in the extreme to think that he is physically or technically ready for full-time first team duties.

Krkic is the future, not the present. Work him in, get him first-team time, get him used to the pressure, the physical nature of the game, feed him Wheaties, get him bulked up. By then, Eto'o and Henry are gone, things are different, and he is ready to assume his role.

At present, it's just journalists trying to stir stuff up, particuarly AS. We all know their allegiance.

I read an interview where it said he was fine waiting his turn for both Spain and FCB. No way this kid is complaining, if you notice all the players that came up trough our ranks (ex: Puyol, Xavi, Iniesta, Valdes, even Messi**...) are all humble players. Not to say the players brought in from other places arent, but our players are definately %100 humble and rescpectfull of the coaches desicions. We dont have players bitching or arguing with the coach like other teams do.

It wasnt too long ago that Iniesta was a pure sub. You never saw him with a bad attitude on the bench whinning that he wasnt playing enough. Bojan is good enough to fill the gap here and there and kick in some goals when needed, but like most of you said this kid is pretty much the future of this team. At the moment there really isnt a need to overload him at a young age. Bojan will be a monster for us in the future.

** Most Angentine player the opposite of humble!

I agree with Memo that our youth players are also decent people. I don't know if they select on that or that it's something they stress during their time with us, but it's nice to see that.

But you always have some exception of course, like Giovani maybe was one...

Gio problem was barca fans actually, and that's y I am so careful to encourage pushing the young players to the game before they r strong enough mentally, last season the big names in the team were shadows, the team collapsed, and instead the fans showed their dissatisfaction complaining about gio level and making him feel he is a shit compared to bojan, no player can handle that. whistle once against bojan and lets see how will he react.

i am not comparing bojan quality with that's of gio, and i believe its still too early to tell who will turn to be a better player, both still have a long way to walk. but Barcelona fans sometimes are the teams biggest problem rather than being the best gift.
