Ten reasons to believe in Barcelona

In a rare mood of optimism, Catalan sports paper Sport gives today ten resaons to keep on believing in the project of Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola now that the team only got one point out of the two first league games.

1. Guardiola transmits great desire and absolute confidence

2. Messi is the best player in the world and he's totally involved

3. Xavi was the best player of the European championships

4. The transfer of Alves is a guarantee for a powerful right wing

5. The team is united, motivated and shows discipline

6. The use of youth players proves Guardiola is having an eye for the long-term

7. Eto'o is a born goalscorer and will again be decisive this season

8. The team needs some more time to pick up the new system

9. The fans are behind the manager and the team and are confident about a quick change in the results

10. After two matches, Barcelona did already had all the bad luck a team has in one season

barca played badly against numancia...but against santander it was different.

barca played great football, beautiful passes. we didnt win becuz we got unlucky. it was incredible how unlucky we were. the ball just wont go in. and wen we did things right the ref was aweful!!!

hleb played well. its a pity he got injured. i hope others dont get injured too or we're screwd.

i think barca is picking up the pace and today is still an improvement. its +ve. we should see even better against lisbon.

take a team like manchester utd. they won the champions league with extraordinary luck. they didnt deserve it. but they won. nobody said anything even if they play the most ugly football u'll see. barca is a team that usually doesnt rely on luck to score. every goal is created. we dont need luck. we just need badluck to go away...

GOOD!!! This team needs some positive reinforcement! Also all the points above are valid, especially the last one. Critics can say whatever they want but in the last game we were seriously unlucky and that is the ONLY reason we didnt win. Had luck been on our side we would have won by 2-3 goals. Hopefully we get a bit more luck tomorrow night. In fact we dont even need luck, we need less BAD LUCK!!!!!

Hey Pep...and all the other guys!!!
what do you make of Maradona's attack on Leo Messi? Do you think its valid?

Yes and no, Charles. I don't think that Messi is selfish. I do think that Messi sometimes believes that he can do it all himself, and tends to not look for teammates, dribbling with his head down. But it's confidence-based, not selfish. Hence the yes and no on the Maradona question.

And Maradona daring to call anyone selfish is, as I've said before, like the pot talking to the kettle.

let maradona talk. he is from another age. messi is in another age.
messi is not selfish. he is confident. unlike cristiano ronaldo who is stupid and uncreative, messi knows wat he is doing. he has great vision and creativity.

lets face it ..we all enjoy it wen messi dribbles..=P

Of course Messi is a little "selfish". That is what makes him so brilliant!! Do you think a player who is not a little selfish (I would rather call it confident) could have ever scored that goal against Getafe!?!?! Messi could have passed to Eto'o on several occasions during his run and I am happy he didnt because it resulted in one of the best goals I have ever seen! Also it is important to consider that Messi does create lots of assists and he can spot a pass. Maradonna conveniently forgets thaat Messi set up half the goals scored in the olympics incl the goal in the final.
