Mancini alternative for Alves

Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport claims that Barcelona sports director Txiki Begiristain will meet today or tomorrow with AS Roma sports director Daniele Pradé to discuss a transfer of Roma winger Amantino Mancini (27).

The polyvalent player would now be the main alternative in case Sevilla doesn't want to let go their right back defender Dani Alves. Mancini's agent, Gilmar Veloz, will arrive in Italy shortly to listen to all offers for the player

With the contract of Mancini expiring next year, Roma is willing to talk about a transfer. Barcelona is preparing an 8 million euro° bid for the Brazilian, while Roma is asking 15 million euro°. Although Roma prefers Abidal (read more
here), they cannot pay his 4 million euro year salary and Barcelona is now considering to offer Brazilian left back defender Sylvinho Mendes in return to reduce the transfer fee.

pep's opinion:
if sylvinho hasn't yet signed a renewal, barcelona cannot really "offer him in a return" since his contract expires at the end of this month

How is a winger a replacement for a full back?

Just because Dani Alves likes to attack doesn't mean he spends all of his time in the final third.

Mancini started his career as right back.

I love Alves but if Sevilla doesn't drop their ridiculous 35m euro fee, I think we should look at other options (Mancini being one of them) and spend the rest of the money to other positions.

There are only two alternatives (ironically, they are Brazilians too) to Dani, the first one would be Rafinha from Schalke, the second one Maicon from Inter. Everyone else makes no sense...

Maicon isn't available, so scrap that one from the list. And during the CL tie against Schalke I didn't really see what everyone was talking about relating to Rafinha. Both in defense as in attack he didn't convince me at all.

mancini was a great right back when he started. For a fair price this would be a great asset.
10m euro is ok!

Barca should try everything to get Alves, he has no replacements. Alves is attacking full-back so he can play on the right flank defense and attack. There's no another solution, Barca needs that player but I think ManUtd is much closer to him. I hope Mancini won't come and if he does, price cannot be higher than 10 million euro.
